SPIED: Mercedes-Benz's HOT-Selling C-Class Is Getting A Refresh — SEE It For The FIRST Time HERE!
I remember when the first official shots of the current-gen Mercedes-Benz C-Class dropped. The exterior was striking and mimicked the flagship S-Class, the interior was jaw-dropping and the packaging was compelling.

It's no wonder they've been killing it from a sales perspective. You can't go anywhere in major metropolitan areas without running into a gaggle of Cs.

But, as the competition ramps up the three-pointed star has to up the ante. As noted in my review of the 2017 Audi A4, the C's days of being well ahead of the pack are numbered.

In these all-new spy shots, it's clear the company will be doing a once over on the outside. That means new LED elements in the headlights, a mildly updated front/rear fascias, and we're hoping for some modifications to the interior — like a bigger screen — as well as the powerplants.

When is the S-Class refresh being released?

From what I hear, the new E-Class has so much more tech on the E-Class than in the 3-year old S, that such upgrades need to be made to the S.

The new E-Class sounds amazing.

The new E-Class has the latest tech — this includes the latest autonomous features Mercedes has worked on.

And, we've seen that MB is working on a refresh of the S, so, we can assume the latest and greatest from the E will be put into the S in short order.

Do not like the 4 cyl turbo nor the iPad on the dash... Put the previous gen 3.5-6 in the car, redo the dash and get rid of the iPad.... NOW you've got something...

I agree about the turbo. The "2.0T" fascination eludes me. The premise is that the turbo 4 gives the power of a 6 and the economy of a 4, but it rarely plays out that way in real life. I'd rather have a 6.

Given that the S Class is the one to beat, freshening it sooner rather than later is how to to stay ahead of the rest.

The S Class easily trounces the 7 Series and the A8. Let's not talk about the embarrassing XJ.

I drove one not too long ago and was impressed with the design but unimpressed with the 4cyl motor with it's lack of power and hoarse sound and vibration. BMWs 4cyl is much better imo. The new screens will be a welcome improvement to an outstanding interior.

Indeed, that's the criticism I have of the premium 2.0T craze overall. With as much money as cars like this cost, the lack of refinement seem counterintuitive. I think--in general--manufacturers have found a way to get better MPG in testing situations with a turbo 4 than with a six that may well deliver as good or better MPG in real life.

Because I make it a point to drive the cars the company sells, I have spent three months each in a Fusion 2.5 and a Fusion Ecoboost 1.5T. The Ecoboost got slightly LOWER MPG especially in stop-and-go traffic on the 405.

Completely agree Matt. If I'm not mistaken all 3 BMW/MB/Audi all are turbo engines now, or in Audi's case the 3.0Supercharger in the A6, etc... Now Porsche has gone the turbo base, etc... mills. Cadillac offers the 3.6-6 in the CTS/ATS, and other cars, and is normally aspirated and rated from around 308 - 345bhp. Give me a normally aspirated any day. BTW: what is your real time mileage in the Fusion Hybrid? Anyway you can get Ford to do that one in AWD? C'mon, use your pull...

Actually - I am the one who has a Fusion Hybrid - as my Company Car. It not the current generation car though I do still manage an easy 42 MPG in mixed driving. Interestingly - it is slightly better in the city than it is on long hauls.

All manufacturers had to go with smaller displacement turbo to firstly meet gov efficiency goals set several years ago, and to keep buyers happy with the power/performance. It's not really a "craze" but a mandate to improve overall company fuel efficiency.
I believe that's why manufacturers now use stop/start technology to help reduce consumption when stopped at lights or in heavy traffic.

There is no gas shortage, there is no "global warming" so why the mandates...."control"....

Yet the real-world MPG is usually LOWER with the boosted engine versus a larger, normally aspirated mill.

For example, if you're trying to decide between the Mustang Ecoboost and the V6, the answer is the V6 which has equal power, better NVH, is less expensive, and tends to get better RW-MPG.

Audi's new A8 flagship sedan will be revealed by end of this year. It promises to have radical, aggressive and differentiated design when compared to the current model and will be the first Audi model designed from concept to production model by new Audi design chief Marc Lichte.

Mercedes-Benz will likely stay ahead of the Audi launch and reveal the refreshed S-Class before the new A8 debuts.
