Audi Readies To Clean The M3's Clock With Electric Turbocharged RS4

Audi's new S4 will soon be available to order, but the compact exec hasn't reached its performance peak yet. Our spies have again captured the next RS4 out and about in disguise, and it's expected to launch some time next year.

Although previous spies have shown an S4 with some very subtle tweaks, this camouflaged prototype sports the tell-tale twin oval exhaust pipes that are now found across all RS models. Larger air intakes at the front and a lower ride height also give the game away.

Looks like a 1990's Audi station wagon. (yawn)

A surprising number of the M3/4, S/RS4, and C Class AMG are as territorial as Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger buyers and would not cross shop.

The RS4 will be a magnificent performer, but in this segment I'd rather have something RWD based, specifically Mercedes and AMG.

Audis are quite fast yes, but the quattro system can be a bit numb at the limit.

This product cannot lose. Build it and watch sales happen.

Looking forward to seeing how these new electric turbos perform. Will they finally and truly eliminate turbo lag? We'll soon find out.

Turbo lag isn't a problem with most Audis. The main negatives are numb steering and understeer (IMO).
@skytop re your comments - YAWN. Companies have a lot more customers than just you to appeal to.

I got ripped to shreds about five years ago on a car board for merely suggesting that an electric supercharger was a viable (and good) concept for low or supplemental boost. Everyone was saying there was NO WAY an electric could even produce enough power and if it did it wouldn't be worth it.

The great thing is you can precisely tune the boost with all kinds of parameters that are simply not possible mechanically, for a linear response curve.

Looking forwarding to hearing more about this one...

indeed and I'm actually surprised it's taken this long to have electric forced induction
