Ford Says It is NOT Interested In Going To The Altar With Fiat Chrysler

Ford Motor Co. reiterated that it has no interest in merging with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, after CEO Sergio Marchionne said Friday that Ford was one of three potential partners for a tie-up.

“As we consistently have said, Ford has no plan or interest other than to continue to accelerate our One Ford plan, deliver product excellence and drive innovation in every part of our business,” the company said in an emailed statement Friday to The Detroit News.

Ford’s statement follows comments made by Marchionne earlier in the day ahead of the company’s shareholders’ meeting in Amsterdam. He said Ford, Volkswagen AG and Toyota Motor Corp. were potential partners for a “big” auto industry merger after General Motor Co. rebuffed the company in 2015.

FCA/VW would be hilariously tragic. Toyota needs nothing FCA has, but Hyundai/Kia on the other hand...

I predict that in a fire sale, Ford would be interested in Jeep as a showroom mate to Lincoln and possibly even the Maserati nameplate. I could see Ford interested down the road if only to put Dodge, Ram, Chrysler, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Lancia out of business for their American and European operations respectively.

MD: Disagree with you on this. Hyundai / Kia does not need FCA. Every auto maker would like to have Jeep. Ford does not need the other brands of FCA. Ford got rid of Volvo, Jaguar, etc. to save themselves from financial ruin.

Agreed - Ford already did the European premium car thing - and it did not work. I also agree that MOST manufacturers large(Not Rover) would want Jeep. However that is NOW _ and unless FCA comes up with a number of new platforms in the near future - Jeep will eventually wane again as it has in the past when they ignored it. The need to continuously produce new product is why FCA needs a bigger buyer than itself. I would have thought Nissan/Renault would be a possibility there - but then they have the same problem.

I think that eventually - in Europe - where they regularly do this type of thing - you will get a few of the also rans - to come together to produce a few platforms in common. THey already do this in the VAN area. Even GM is in on it. The "outsourcing" of smaller cars for FCA will be the first test of this.

@ricks0me you are DEAD WRONG. Does Hyundai have pickups? Nope! Ram to the rescue. Does Hyundai have an SUV line that could be cast as a true competitor to Land Rover/Range Rover? Nope! Jeep to the rescue.

I predict that no on will merge with FCA, but rather than Marchionne will sell of the profitable American parts (Jeep/Ram), kill Chrysler and Dodge, and then retreat back to Europe with Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati with the cash in hand.

The only option outside of taking some heat and self correcting his own
mess is merging with a Chinese company which will never happen in Italy. This is not going to end well for you Sergio but you have no one to blame but yourself.

He probably will retire and turn the mess over to an underling who will then be the name associated with Chrysler's obliteration.
