RUMOR: BIG News For The BMW X5 — An All-New X5 Is Coming SOON, Like NEXT YEAR Soon
One of the most critical vehicles in the BMW portfolio is the X5 sport-utility vehicle. It is one of those products that cannot be messed up. Especially now.

And that's why I think the company played it safe when it released its all-new X5 several years ago. Largely the exterior design remained the same; however, detail-obsessed nuts like myself noticed the key differences. Hell, even the inside didn't get many changes.

Looking at the company's sales figures at the time, the last-gen X5 was actually selling MORE units towards the end of its lifecycle. That's inverse to what usually happens during a vehicle's lifespan — as products get stale the sales drop off.

Now though it's clear that the Bavarians are feeling the heat as more competition comes online. Just THINK: The Jaguar F-Pace, the Maserati Levante, next-gen Porsche Cayenne, etc.

According to our friends in Australia, BMW is planning on short cycling the X5 and then the all-new X7 will come online shortly thereafter. Our friends at Motoring suggest that we'll see the all-new X5 in late 2017 with the X7 out and about in 2018.

Given that BMW is MISSING OUT on a huge seven-seater luxury market, we think this fast track is the way to go.

What say you, Spies?

...The Bavarian car-maker last month forecast the big new X7 will find 50,000 buyers annually worldwide from 2018, and Australia will be one of its largest markets.

Speaking to motoring.com.au at the MkII X1 local launch last October, BMW Group Australia managing director Marc Werner said the company’s new seven-seat SUV flagship will be popular among Australian families looking for more space in a luxury SUV...

...“The launch date of the all-new X5 is yet to be confirmed but if you look at the lifecycle of the product and the announcement that we made regarding the X7, we’ll see an all-new X series product line-up in the coming years, so we’re talking in the mid-term,” he said...

A new X5 is needed. The current one was a stand-still design and it is aging fast.

Good thing. The current one is a design disaster.

Personally, I would like it to be larger so I could consider it for the family, but I know this will not happen so they can slide an X7 in.

The 7 Series needs a full replacement too because it's an embarrassment compared to the S Class, but it is at least worlds better than the A8.

With all of the different new Manufacturers of medium and large premium CUVs coming in the next two years - BMW really needs to pull out all the stops and produce a really compelling vehicle. The current one only compels people to go elsewhere.

AS far as the S class 7 series comparison - they are clearly going after two different customers. Mercedes did the right thing - they polled their BUYERS who indicated a desire for more Luxury and Space and Quiet - and then they produced a vehicle for their Luxury car buyers and let AMG address their sports sedan buyers. I would tend to believe that BMW pulled a DeNysschen - and decided that they would go after the sports sedan buyers more fully with their offering - and leave the Luxury car buyers for Mercedes. While the Luxury buyers may be a larger group - BMW is largely more known for Driving Machines - not Limos. SO the 7 series is more consistent with their other offerings.

With all of the Chaos that must be going on at Audi/VW - it is a wonder that the A8 is still being produced at its dismally small numbers

My biggest beef with the X5 is the lack of 2nd row room. I would like to see BMW add more 2nd row room even if that means adding length to the overall size of the vehicle, or sacrificing cargo space. Hopefully the new X5 will address that glaring gap.

While I agreed with the 2nd row issue. I would go farther to say limited 3rd row/cargo area makes it even less attractive to one looking for a family vehicle. To me, XC90 size is just right, as I am not interested in going into Suburban territory.

The next A8 will be a radical departure from the current model. The next A8 will be the first Audi with complete oversight from conception to production by new Audi design chief Marc Lichte. Lichte has promised more aggressive and differentiated design and Audi has confirmed as much.

Audi is going to load the A8 with technology and safety features. BMW really missed the mark with the new 7-Series and pretty soon it will have the new Audi A8 to contend with in addition to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which has perennially demolished it in global annual sales.

BMW is already getting outsold globally by Mercedes-Benz and I believe its 7-Series is going to have an even harder time once the new Audi A8 debuts.
