DRIVEN + VIDEO: The All-New BMW M2 Gets WRINGED Out — Is It BETTER Than The M4?
Something tells me that BMW may have created a bit of a monster here.

You see, back when it built the 1M the company did something no one thought was possible. It built a vehicle better than the longstanding M3, which is largely considered the most fun BMW product to drive. Now we have the follow up to that and it's called the M2.

BMW M2 and X4 M40i

Although we're a bit hesitant to say it's as hardcore as the 1M — that car literally was part-for-part an E92 from the transmission back — it's still got a lot of the M4 in it. At least that's what we've been told.

At the end of the day, only one question remains for interested parties: Is it BETTER than its big brother, the M4? Ask and ye shall receive!

While I don't want to spoil the video, I will say this is one very, very interesting clip. You really should watch this one.

In addition, we've noted that the all-new M2 has started arriving at local BMW dealers. After you see this story you may want to give one a call. That said, if you're going to make that move you should check out our sister site, DealerRater.com, and locate your best BMW store and salesperson around.

BMW M2 and X4 M40i

The BMW 1 Series M Coupe was an instant classic. It was the product of an internal skunkworks project to shoehorn the suspension, wheels, and brakes from the larger M3 Competition Pack into the 1 Series. The fender-flared squat little bulldog was a bit badly behaved, which only made us love it more. These days, BMW’s cars are more capable, but at the expense of the involvement that made the brand what it is today. So we were genuinely concerned that the M2 would be more of a marketing exercise than a real Motorsport-inspired product. Motor Trend Senior Editor Jason Cammisa takes the M2 to the back roads, and brings SCCA Hall of Fame inductee Randy Pobst along to the Streets of Willow to find out if the M2 is a worthy successor to the laugh-a-minute 1M Coupe in this episode of Ignition, presented by Tire Rack.

Another essentially two seater car with a rear package shelf also suitable for those with no legs. I am not sure the word "monster" is applicable - even if it is fast. Why not just get a real two seater?

@TomM

Standard S Class. I have not ridden in a Maybach of either generation, but I have ridden in a Phantom. The Phantom--and I assume Maybach--are for people with money who do not want to drive and therefore have no reason to live.

I'd rather drive and the current S Class is quite wonderful.

@Hawk

You must be f**king brain-dead. The 2 Series is cramped and costs nearly as much as a 3 Series which is every bit as good as the 2 Series, but infinitely more tolerable to live with.

And anyone who pays attention knows (1) an Olds 98 is not my dream car and (2) that I own my dream car.

The throttle blipping thing and the cockeyed seat would annoy me. Assuming the M2 is staggeringly cheaper than the M4, I'd go with the M2. The normal 2 Series is a terribly flawed car and it looks like BMW tarted it up enough to overlook those flaws. I'm sure the pricing will be stupid for the performance level delivered.

Matt - I have a question for you - assuming money was not an issue - which would you prefer - A LWB Rolls Phantom or a Mercedes Maybach ?

Huh???? You must be f**king brain-dead.
Have you driven the M235i?
I assume your dream vehicle was the 1990 Olds 98...

"Wringed"? No such word. Past tense of wring is "wrung".
