SNL Pokes Fun At Mercedes With Imaginary Zero Emission AA Battery Powered EV
Electric cars are on the rise, but there are still plenty of setbacks that come with the more environmentally conscious choice. Charging? Sounds like a long wait. No plug nearby? Too bad. Saturday Night Live imagined a future of electric vehicles that factors out all of the less-desirable aspects like charging and such, with a vehicle powered by a mere 9,648 AA batteries. The number is really an oversight, if you think about how much charging time it’ll save.

This was a very funny segment! I wonder if they received (asked?) permission from Mercedes before they did it. Julia Louis Dreyfuss just nailed it!

The best parts - (a) the "in-car diagnostics" that started telling the driver that the AA batteries were going dead (there were like 6,000 of them - so the warnings were frequent and strong!) and (b) the "battery release ribbon" that dumped all 6,000 batteries out of the car.

Sure its humor - but its a little shocking that most EV's will need a battery replacement and that all the toxic battery stuff will have to be disposed of somehow!

MBUSA seems to have liked the spot, even made fun of it by pointing out the obvious, can use rechargeable cells:
