If Apple's New EV Looks Like An Aston Martin Would You Sell Off That Tesla Preorder?
Silicon Valley somehow thinks that knowhow in the field of computers will translate to success in the auto industry despite doubts from veteran auto executives. Thing is, given that many cars nowadays are rolling computers, they may just be right. Obviously the computer portion of the car is the easiest part for tech companies to make, although fierce competition has led Apple, Tesla, and Google to poach the best software engineers in the realm of autonomous software from one another by flexing their billionaire budgets.

If it looks like the Aston and offers performance like the S, then I would sell a kidney to get it. Otherwise, I will wait for the Model 3.

That's a 1.2 million Aston Martin....against a $35000 Tesla?? No match...

If Apple produces a car, I'll be extremely wary of it until it earns a strongly positive reputation. Remember the hype about the uber-premium priced Apple Watch, and what a dud it became, both in demand and in daily use? The reality might not meet the hype.

If Apple installs a supercharging network with Superchargers every 100 miles on all major highwaysacross the USA, I'd consider it. Somehow no one seems to understand why 400,000 people have ordered Teslas, 100,000 of them before Tesla even unveiled the cars. It's the supercharging network, stupid.

the network is and will still not be enough for the number of Teslas on the road I am afraid, besides who wants to stop and charge for hours

Until the Battery packs in these cars can be swapped out - an EV still remains only a partial solution for polluting internal combustion engines. There is still no way to make long trips without delays for charging. I suppose a 1 hour charge might also solve the problem for most - who can stop for meals and charge their cars at the same time - but you would need LOTS of charging stations for that. Refueling takes minutes - BUT - that also means that others do not have to stand in long lines to get fuel for the most part. If refueling every car took an hour - forget long trips.

It is likely that APPLE'S car will look more like a European Mini-Van - than an Aston. The Aston may look nice - but its configuration is not well suited to autonomous travel - where interior space for passengers is needed. That Van style "design" still remains the best for transporting many passengers. A highly styled - futuristic design - would sell.

That is a lot of eating considering a supercharge gets one 80% full on a vehicle that has a 300 mile range. A half hour to one hour sit down meal every 3 hours. Ouch, my pants are tight!

The original Tesla had a 230 mile range - the ones that range over 300 miles are more expensive. And the Tesla itself is far more expensive than the average car. And while it may only take an hour to get a 200 mile charge(Actual) - how long will it take to get near the Supercharger - there are only 500 of them so far - and most are on the coasts. Tesla has already sent letters to its buyers telling them to use them less - and be around to move the car when done. I can still pump a full tank in about 5 minutes. The Supercharger may be a solution for LONG Vacations where time is not a real factor - for business people - waiting in line to use one is wasted time - and if it takes a couple of hours - you lost a day

The market has already established that they are NOT comfortable with limited range vehicles - even Teslas. If you get stuck somewhere - it will always mean a tow - rather than a can of gas.

If Jobs was around, then I'd know Apple will pull it off somehow. Cook, I'll believe when I see it.
