Survey Says Over 50% Of People Want A Self Driving Car So They Can Sleep During The Ride
British automotive site What Car? has just released the results of a new survey on autonomous driving that shows people—at least in the UK—are still wary of the new tech. A total of 45% of respondents said they would feel very uncomfortable with an autonomous car being fully in control of itself. When it came to being behind the wheel of a self-driving car 51% of people said they would feel unsafe or very unsafe. A third of respondents (34%) said they feared that an autonomous car wouldn’t be able to avoid an accident.

Maybe I'm one of those rare weirdos who gets enough sleep all at once, overnight, and who also enjoys driving his car. Strange, huh? I look forward to a 2,500 mile road trip! I look forward to seeing if I can break my personal best record for high fuel economy. I love the occasional brisk romp through the twisties, or the acceleration while passing someone going uphill. I'm certainly NOT one who views a car as being simply a means for getting from A to B. It's a source of enjoyment for me.

Indeed. We have a lazy society that does not want to lift a finger to do anything. Autonomous cars are the holy grail for lazy people because it's one less thing they have to do.

But think of how much faster to get across country if the car would drive you through the night.

MrEE: Your objective is to get there faster. Mine is to enjoy the journey while driving, as opposed to enjoying browsing the web, or texting, or YouTubing. To each their own.

Your example is idiotic. The preponderance of drivers are not routinely driving across the country again and again. Another example of lazy sheeple who want autonomous cars.

People today waste their waking lives on nonsense like Farcebook and other social medium. Result? They cannot remain conscious driving and at work. (If they even have a job).
