EXCLUSIVE- What The Spies Will Tell You About The Tesla Model X What NO Other Media Will.
Here in America's finest city (San Diego) the all new Tesla Model X is starting to been seen on the streets in volume.

In the course of a day we're spying at least 5-10 different customer units trolling the 'IT' San Diego neighborhoods.

And before we will give a final yay or nay on a new product design, it is of the utmost importance that we see it driving on the streets, as well as in pics and at auto shows and events.

So now that we've had that opportunity, we're ready to tell you something that no major media is willing to...

The new Tesla Model X is absolutely HIDEOUS looking in real life on the road.

Just in case you're not reading us right and you're not clear on how we feel, we'll state it another way.

The Tesla Model X is one of the MOST disappointing looking SUV's that we've ever seen.

It's ponderous looking, the proportions are wrong, it's too bulbous, the profile is ugly and the face saddens our spirits.

It looks like it should be mounted on a monorail at Disneyland. It's like a Jetson's vehicle gone wrong.

So, do you get it now?

Are we clear?

Ok, there. We said it.

What say you Spies? What do YOU think of it's look now that you're seeing it out and about?

Discuss....

In the past three weeks, I've finally started to see them in the NYC area and yes, the Model X will make you want to puke. It is THAT poorly proportioned.

All the development $$$$ must have gone to do the 'falcon doors/eagles wings' maybe as a distraction from the apparent fact that they took a Model S and plopped a bigger body on it. WTF - who in Tesla product planning thought that an SUV hatchback was a good idea. It's as ugly as a Pontiac Aztec or AMC Pacer.

Blechhhhh!

SO not pretty... but not as bad as an Aztec.

For me it depends on the color. I don't like it in black but think blue, red, and white look decent. Definitely not as good as the Model S or Model 3.

Been saying that since day one and all your fangurls on here tried to blast me for it. Seen a couple on the road and they look worse, much worse.

Keep that ugly thing in America's finest city (San Duana), LoL!

Dare I say if. I think the model 3 is plagued from the same issues. They squished the good looking model S into a smaller foot print and it's not working.

No surprise coming from resident Tesla hater 001. Although I admit she isn't a beauty, I've also seen quite a few of them on the street lately so it's obviously selling well.

All black - including wheels - with the white interior is actually pretty sweet.

AND they are changing the front of the Model S - to look like that TOO.

Actually this is the end-game of the SUV. Just a cramped bubble with a higher seating position for insecure drivers.

During the Model 3 intro Musk referred to the original business plan which had 3 vehicles in it; 1 = the roadster, 2 = the S and 3=the 3. He eluded to the X as product 2.5, in other words a deviation from the original plan. Given all the challenges and expenses associated with X and the earnings comment about the "hubris" involved with the X's design induced problems, one wonders if Tesla with come to regret doing the X as time goes by. Spending that time and money getting the 3 done earlier might have been better for the company.

Side note. Nissan is now running full page "Why Wait" ads for the Leaf.

The business case for the Model X is not too different from Porsche's Cayenne. There was even a bigger uproar with the Cayenne, and it wasn't a prom queen either. But look at what it did for Porsche and the "sports" SUV segment since. Prior to the Cayenne, premium SUV market consisted of a few cars (BMW X's and Land Rover, maybe Toyota Land Cruiser). They were lousy handlers with so-so interior quality, especially the X's given BMW credential for building sports car. Now most SUVs/CUVs are like sedan with matching performance and better utility.

Now with the Tesla Model X, the EV SUV/CUV will be opened up. Other car makers will certainly follow just like they do wrt the S. Styling of the X, while not aesthetically pleasing, it is subjective and can easily be change in future iterations.

As for the Leaf's ad, it funny but the joke is on Nissan. I checked out the car last week, and wasn't at all impressed with its value, even with hefty tax and factory incentives.

HenryN the difference between Porsche and Tesla is that Porsche is an historically profitable brand and has deep pockets as well as a parent with deep pockets. Porsche can take chances like the Cayenne (platform costs shared with VW and Audi)and survive a failure or two along the way. As a young company Tesla is still in financially risky territory and needs to focus on doing a few things well to financially prove themselves. Straying from the business plan that attracted investors, who can be fickle, could endanger the company. Tesla has some large financing rollover activity to do over the next three years. A track record of profitability is absolutely essential. Hiccups with the X and then the Model 3 intro could do severe damage.

Porsche wishes it had the cash access that Tesla has.

I like it. And I think most of the guys commenting otherwise have an agenda. Or simply have bad taste. But it hardly matters - they'll sell every one they can make.

They sell every one they make AT A LOSS is the issue.

Saw another today. Yeah.. it's not attractive the way the Model S is. The Model S stands out among other SUVs for its good looks as well as its tech. The Model X has to rely strictly on tech because it doesn't look as nice as other SUVs in its price range (or below for that matter).

Tech, practicality, and definitely performance. Did you see the video of a Model X outrunning a Ferrari F430? The 3/4 angle is definitely it's worst. I'm seeing a crapton of Model X's now in Silicon Valley. Directly from the front or back it looks pretty good, side could be better, and 3/4 is not good at all. It does look amazing with the doors up though.

When I compare to a BMW X6, X4 or a Mercedes design, it looks very good to me.

I love the idiocy of people who tout the drag racing times of Teslas. Electric motors produce full torque from start so of course they should be able to be made to go fast, but such acceleration drains the battery FAST.
