The All-New Hyundai Elantra SPORT Takes A Bow In Korea — Takes Dead Aim On Civic Si And Jetta GLI
Making its debut in Hyundai’s local market today was the all-new Hyundai Elantra Sport. Well, it goes by a different name overseas but that’s neither here nor there.

According to what we’ve heard, the all-new Elantra Sport will debut at the 2016 SEMA Show in Las Vegas in October. But, rather than wait all the way until then, we’re going to give you a first look at the car and crack an egg of knowledge all over you with the information the company released today.

Hyundai Elantra Sport

So, here we go.

First things first you’ll note that there’s a bit of visual oomph added thanks to the new front and rear clips. That means there’s larger air intakes as well as a rear diffuser element with a dual-tipped exhaust. In addition, scope out the LED driving lights and xenon headlights. On the inside, you’ll be confronted with  sportier seats with a two-tone look, a D-cut steering wheel — flat-rimmed steering wheel — carbon fiber-inspired trim, and red seat belts.

Powering the Elantra Sport is a 1.6-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine good for just over 200 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. It will come equipped with a standard six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox can be had should you so desire. Zero to 60 happens in eight seconds.

This is something Hyundai has needed to do for ages.

The GLI is a nice drive, but it certainly is not game-changing in its prowess. The GLI is a very easy target to topple. A Focus ST sedan would do it if there were such a thing.

I wouldn't even consider it a Civic competitor...more of the same Kia vs Hyundai stuff because both are mediocre and lack engagement....

Just Matt collecting his Hyundai check again for putting on his skirt and pushing sub-par cars in the market. Hyundai has industry leading poor reliability, gimmick designs that age quickly and poor resale values. Avoid at all cost.
