VW DieselGate Losses Continue To Ease With A 9.65% Drop In April Sales
Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWoA) today reported sales of 27,112 units delivered in April 2016.

“We are pleased with the performance in our retail business, driven by vehicles like the Tiguan, GTI and Golf R,” said Mark McNabb, chief operating officer, Volkswagen of America. “While overall sales reflect a decline this is due, in large part, to an intentional decrease in fleet sales.”

The Tiguan produced the best April results on record for the vehicle with 3,519 vehicles delivered, a 53 percent increase over March 2015.

In April, the 2016 Volkswagen e-Golf was named Best Compact in the 2016 AAA Green Car Guide. The e-Golf has a strong month with 326 units delivered, a 5.5 percent increase over April 2015.

Memo to VW: Close shop (but leave us Audi), leave the U.S. for a few years and come back when you have something worth buying. Your problem is not curtailed to Dieselgate.

I personally think that the biggest problem for VW is that its designs are so fully European based - where Americans are not onboard. Americans do not like/buy Hatchbacks - and the GOLF is the largest selling VW worldwide and a hatchback. German cars for whatever reason - tend to be near the smallest interiors for their class. Just look at the difference between a Mercedes E class and a larger Ford Mondeo/Fusion.

BUT - the two biggest problems with VW vehicles is their actual lack of reliability AND their cost of repairs. A VW Automatic Transmission can cost twice what a Japanese one costs to repair for instance. ANd when you are talking of $2000-3000 being common for the Japanese - that is a big difference.

However - VW made a BIG mistake by trying to take VW upmarket. THe pricing was so outrageous that is was often so close to AUDI that it made no sense to buy a VW. (Audi has better resale). The people in the USA will never accept VW as an Upmarket brand.
