Toyota Pulls Off Cover On A GT86 Shooting Brake Concept - Is Your Interest Peaked?

In a surprising turn of events, Toyota has pulled the covers off a Shooting Brake version of the four-year old GT 86 in concept form.

Revealed in Sydney, Australia, by the Toyota 86 global chief engineer Tetsuya Tada, the study was developed by the brand's Production Design team in Oz and was hand-built in Japan.

"The Toyota 86 lends itself perfectly to a concept that expands its appeal with added versatility while retaining its sleek and sporty coupe styling and sharp, responsive driving character", said the Toyota Australia Divisional Manager National Marketing, Brad Cramb.

I never did find the Veloster likeable and this one rubs me the same way. This thing is even worse in that it copied the Veloster. I had the same sentiment towards MB's hideous GLC Coupe in its mimick of the equally hideous X6. But that's just my opinion.

I've never cared for the 2-door station wagon idea. I hope enough other people like it to make it worth Toyota's while.

Acutally, I'd love Ford to do a Mustang shooting brake. It would allow people who want a Mustang to have a teensy bit of a crossover's utility.

I think the Hyundai Veloster is ahead of its time--ugly yes--but on the right track.

Shooting brake means big power. Add a turbo and 50+ hp and then call it a shooting brake. If not, then perhaps FRS wagon?

UGLY

This car needs a Toyota turbo 4. The Subaru engine is so less smooth than what Toyota has.

This car needs much better chassis tuning. The GT86 is a slider. Exciting to drive but always in the way of other cars on the track.

This car needs gorgeous styling, not this Subaru-penned puke.
