CAR WARS! SUPERCAR Showdown! Ferrari 488 GTB vs. Porsche 911 Turbo S
When you think of supercars, it's hard to think who's the best competitors. That's because there's so many ways to slice and dice the vehicles. It's endless these days.

But few have been doing it like Ferrari and Porsche. Both automakers are pushing the limits of what's capable and the legendary Italian automaker has just started turbocharging its product portfolio. First it was the California T and now it's the mid-engine 488 GTB.

Porsche, on the other hand, has always been a fan of turbocharging and all-wheel drive. However, it's tough to think of a tougher benchmark for the Ferrari to chase after. Consider this: The Porsche is the choice most go for when it comes to speed-to-value as daily driving duty.

So, which of the two is better? The 911 Turbo S or the 488 GTB?

Well, only one way to find out as Auto Express gets two of its staff members together to dish it out on BOTH vehicles.

The Ferrari 488 GTB is the first turbocharged, mid-engine Ferrari since the legendary F40 in the 80's. That is a lot of pressure for a new supercar to live up to, but the Fezzer shone through in our first drive in Italy.

So, what else could we do but pit it against the incredibly fast Porsche 911 Turbo S? The Ferrari might be less practical and more expensive, but its performance can easily give the 911 a run for its money!

I dislike them both, but the Porsche would be my choice. Porsche's are as good at "being Larry when you want it to" as a Ferrari, but Porsches are much better at being cars when you are using them for your daily drive.

You dislike them both? But you like a KIA? You are classless and have poor taste. You are an odd individual, did you inherit your so called "car investments" from a sugar daddy?

I do dislike current Porsche and Ferrari products, but you chose to overlook that I sided with Porsche.

As current performance cars go neither Porsche nor Ferrari is my cup of tea. Of current cars give me a GT350, Stingray, ZO6, ZL1, or F Type any day of the week.

If we're talking "all time" Porsches then I love the 914-6 and the 944. If we're talking "all time" Ferraris, then the Daytona is my choice. I've had the opportunity to drive one and it is sensational.

As for the K900, I'm not bamboozled by prestige of any brand that that leads people to over pay.

Why buy a Ghibli when a Charger SRT 392 costs less, looks better, is essentially the same car, and gives better performance?

I take pride in being an odd individual, but I will never apologize for the blue-collar frugality that life has taught me. Life has given me the luxury of money, but money has not made me a blind idiot that values prestige at any cost over substance.

For me, substance always wins over prestige.

As for sugar daddies--to use your term--I had the fortune to be mentored by several older car enthusiasts when I was a teenager. I was hired to be their detail boy and, when I got my license, their vintage car exerciser. They taught me the car business and two put me through college in exchange for providing assisted living in their declining years.

In both cases, I inherited well and have shrewdly made that pot of money get larger.

I refuse to apologize for being tenacious. If I can make a buck I'll do it in a heartbeat.

When the 2015 Mustang came out I had one of the first GT 5.0's in the manifest. I had it for a couple days and a guy in a supermarket parking lot wanted one but every dealer he had contacted had a waiting list. I told him to make me an offer and struck a deal.

@USNA1999 If we did martinis we'd be cool. I am so honest it is scary. Have I done things in my life for money that I regret? Yes and no. My degrees are in psych--somewhat useless in my empire of car dealerships and restoflips. I planned to be a therapist.

My "persona" here is not me, though the details are real.

I have a wife.

We have 4 boys 4 and under.

One on the way.

I will cop to anything I've ever done and challenge the challenger to divulge his shit.

You won't believe this, but I am cool and likable.

Pushing buttons is funner.

Ask me anything and you have an honest reply.

My issue with Porsches and Ferrari's are 2 items. 1)-Most of them are now turbocharged. I think that is a total cop out as the MPG's may be better on a steady run test loop but don't mean BS in the real world. besides what rich person gives a rats ass about fuel economy in the first place.2)They have or are moving away from the manual transmission. I could care less if it is a second faster around a track or 2/10ths faster to 60MPH. These cars deserve to have a manual transmission. Ok there is a 3rd gripe. They are simply too much money for what they offer. Obviously the market will support it. But Darringers point is you can get a lot more car for your buck these days with a Z28, GT 350 or a Hellcat. Further there are plenty of Eurocars and Jap cars that offer 90 to 95% of the driving enjoyment for a fraction of the cost of these cars. Besides the 3 American cars I mentioned, there is the Nissan GTR, Jaguar F Type R, Lotus Evora 400 to name a few. Let us also not forget the Chevy Corvette.
