BMW Says It Isn't Worried About Audi's A1 - But Is Working On Rival Anyway

Despite having stated that a vehicle smaller than the 1-Series is out of the question, BMW has reportedly shifted focus and will go Audi A1 hunting with a smaller hatchback.

If the info coming from Motor turns out to be accurate, then the upcoming vehicle will be built on the firm's UKL platform, the same one used on the second generation X1, on the 2-Series Tourer models and also across the MINI range, meaning that it will have front-wheel drive.

So what will this be, 1-series? All these down market is killing the brand image.

BMW should be worried, very very worried. They have lost their way design wise and dynamically and no longer live up to their motto as "The Ultimate Driving Machine." Whenever you chase profits ahead of all else you loose. Create something of real value and the money will flow in in buckets. No risk, no gain. Other than M2 there is nothing in their current lineup to draw me into one of their dealerships. I don't think I'm alone.

Is this a backup plan for Mini style driven brand flat-lining or trying to keep there BMW sales number up by further going down market?
