To Dream The IMPOSSIBLE Dream — Finding A Low Mileage Toyota Land Cruiser Or Lexus LX

Here at AutoSpies, we dare to desire certain things that may just be out of the realm of possibility, sometimes. Take, for example, my quest for the perfect 1M that isn’t molested or disgracefully overpriced. I think we may have an all-new one for you.

That would be Agent 001’s dream: To be able to find a used, low mileage Toyota Land Cruiser or Lexus LX.

You see, the reason is simple. Toyota/Lexus products of yore were built a bit differently. While we think the company does a damn good job of meeting market expectations these days, there was a different air to the way the cars were built. Need further proof? Go sit in a first-gen Lexus LS and tell us that the Japanese luxury sedan is not an unbelievably well-built product.

We don’t think you’ll be able to.

The old-school Land Cruisers and LXs are mega vehicles. And not only are they massive in scale, they’re also monsters on- and off-road. Add to that the reliability factor and you’ve got a luxury sport-utility vehicle that outclasses just about everyone.

Because of all the aforementioned though that means that it’s essentially impossible to find a used, low mileage vehicle on the used market. In fact, I knew a co-worker that tirelessly searched for one for over 18 months and guess what? He found zippo!

Are you dreaming an impossible dream? What’s your story, Spies? We want to know what you can’t manage to find.

I've never understood the fixation Land Cruiser fans have for these vehicles. I only wish I had one to sell to said people.

If you live in Afghanistan, maybe, but as a vehicle for use on American roads, Land Cruisers are kind of awful.

By the way, if you get in an accident in one, you will basically die as it doesn't really have a crumple zone - the thing will just collapse around you (and if its rusted out, it will disintegrate on impact).

If you need a rugged off road vehicle, just buy a Jeep Wrangler or a Tahoe.

had a 98 land cruiser for 16 years and it is the finest vehicle i have ever owned. at 10 years old drove better than a brand new escalade and was unstoppable off road. only died when a mechanic left the oil plug loose and engine seized when it emptied. there is a reason why they have 50% resale after 10 years, and then reverse and appreciate. good luck seeing that with a tahoe. every time i see a new tahoe, one of its lights is already out, bodes poorly for quality

They do last, but I never sat in a car so big outside but so small inside. My brother had one and he is 6'4 i used to laugh everytime i saw him driving it.
