Lotus To Challenge Macan and Q5 With Performance SUV

Targeting the likes of Porsche's Macan and Audi's Q5, the Lotus SUV will be built in China at a new facility whose construction will begin by the end of this year.

The plant will be located in Guangzhou, a location chosen because of the local government assistance and strong support facilities for the automotive industry, according to Bernama, quoting the Guangzhou Development and Reform Commission Deputy Director, Wang Ke Si.

If it looks like the station wagon-like vehicle in the link, I'd say the Macan and Q5 have nothing to fear.

Also, to the best of my knowledge, some of the qualities Lotus is *not* known for are few defects, reliability, and durability. Not exactly what you want to be known for when going up against the German marques.

Lotus has rocks for brains if they think that they can compete with the Macan/Q5. Lotus is largely a kit car mentality with components from elsewhere bolted into their sports cars.

For those who think Lotus will be credible, may I interest you in giving me deposits on the ultra-secret TVR S Class competitor?

Lotus should leverage the RAV4, restyle the nose, up-rate the interior, hunker it down, and crank up the engine to inferno. That would be credible.

Lotus will get the handling to be like on rails but match the quality of a Yugo. Sad but always true for the last fifty years. As suggested above it would be better for Lotus to remake or work with an existing manufacturer's model. Those of us of the baby boomers generation remember the Lotus (Ford) Cortina...a great great car. A Lotus (Chevy) Cruze might work today.

Guys, don't laugh. They're serious and it seems they went as far as to get Citroen to help with the design...
