Does GM Have Something SPECIAL Planned For The Corvette? Trademark Filing Getting Us AMPED Up!
Since the launch of the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray (C7) it's been amazing. That's because this generation Corvette is a super competitive, incredible performer.

Chevrolet took the bar and raised it. It's very impressive.

That said, the standard 'Vette wasn't enough for the power freaks. Then along came the 600 plus horsepower Z06 model. Making more power than the last-gen ZR1 Corvette, it is a staggering vehicle. We applaud General Motors for breaking out the big guns and challenging the latest and greatest supercars with its modestly priced product — remember, this is all relative.

While the current-gen Z06 is a complete beast, we've been thinking that there could room for something MORE. Looks like we weren't too far off base.

That's because GM recently filed a trademark application to use "ZR1," which is a good sign of things to come. Although it's not a guarantee it does show us that the ship is pointed in the right direction.

Having said that, what do YOU think the ZR1 Corvette should have to make it stand head and shoulders above the rest of the sports car/supercar pack?

It will be interesting to see if a ZR1 is coming or whether GM is just protecting the copyright. If they do one, it will sell out. You simply will not find a Z06 languishing on the lot. I can only imagine one level up.

With the talk of a mid-engined "halo" Corvette, I have to wonder also whether ZR1 would be used on that model.

If you read / view automotive press that has tested the current Z06 is is clearly a car that is not yet "done". 8/10's developed. I'd like to see them perfect the current car before they go add even more power to it.

Arguably, the ZR1 would obviously be a development of the Z06 to add the 2/10ths you claim the press says is missing.

Having had the chance to wring out the current Stingray and a Z06, both are pretty damned perfect as is.

Granted with both--but especially the Z06--you had better have gone to driving school because both can quickly exceed the capabilities of the press who probably drive Camrys in real life.

Most of the "8/10ths" comments in Corvette write ups are from snooty reviewers who are butt hurt that the Corvette easily obliterates sports cars costing 2X so they tend to damn the Corvette with faint praise.

Being as enthusiastic about a new Corvette versus just new headlights on the same old 911 isn't allowed.

Yeah, this 8/10ths stuff you speak of I haven't seen/read but wouldn't be surprised if some ham-fisted writers characterized it as such.

Yeah, it's called a $200,000+ price tag when the mid-engined, limited run we replaced all the plastics with "virgin" laid dry carbon-fiber hits showrooms.

More likely a saner version of the Ford GT i.e. not exactly mass market, but also not unobtainable. A $125K base makes a business case. $200K+ doesn't.
