HUH? Volkswagens New Goal Is To Take Over Apple?
Whenever a new CEO takes the helm at Volkswagen AG, he announces a brand-new strategy. Last week, it was CEO Matthias Müller’s turn to proclaim his new strategy at a mass meeting of Volkswagen managers, flown in from all four corners of the Wolfsburg empire. The objective of the meeting was, as Germany’s BILD wrote, to “close the ranks” of Volkswagen’s officer corps, and to swear them in on the new direction before the new strategy is formally announced in a few months. The plan may require a little more work for everybody to sign up. Volkswagen’s leadership appears to be divided.  Some members of VW’s digitalization team dream the new direction will lead to a takeover of Apple.

You can't make this stuff up!! Wow! Talk about not being in touch with reality. Look for tremendous upheaval at VW for the next several years.

This stance shows just how out of touch VW is with the tech sector.

With Google having done an end run around Apple and Microsoft with the Chrome apps/Chromebook OS, VW wanting to take over Apple shows idiocy. Apple has their work cut out for them to remain at the level they are now.

At home I have a MacBook Air that cost $1200, but it may as well be a Chromebook because "everything's on Chrome now" as am I. At the various stores we have legacy software and hardware that is Microsoft based, but all of it could likely be done on a $150 Chromebook.

In fact I am doing a feasibility study to see about doing just that.

I'm a 100% Apple bigot, but a Chromebook has the ease of a Mac for 1/5 to 1/10th the cost.

VW should be focusing on building quality cars that are the industry standard for reliability and durability all while being very affordable.

VW should be going simple and basic.

Maybe some inaccurate translation from German. More likely they fear Silicon Valley taking over the innovation in the auto industry.
