Mazda Says They Are Poised To Move RX Vision From Concept To Production If You Ask
If you look at the Ferrari 275 GTB or the Ferrari 330, and all those Italian cars through the late 50s, 60s and 70s, they were very pure, very clean and very exciting,” explains Mazda’s design director, Kevin Rice.

“That was the philosophy of Italian design. The modern world is busier and more exciting, but we respect those values of purity and beauty. They were valid then, and – if nobody else wants to do it – we want to resurrect those values,” he adds.

Step forward then, the gorgeous Mazda RX Vision. It was part of the concept car parade at last weekend’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa D’Este, and left as many mouths gaping as it did when it was first unveiled at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show.

If it's some ridiculous bauble like the LFA, GTR, or the NSX it will be pointless.

Price it in the Mustang GT to Corvette Stingray price band and Mazda would have a potential hit IF IF IF they can get their heads around the idea of horsepower and torque.

Dear Mazda,

Yes, build it! It is a great looking concept that easily matches, or surpasses, any of the recent concepts from Aston Martin, Ferrari, Porsche or Mercedes.

Do not let the concept's beauty go to your head. You will not be able to sell this car for the price of an Aston or Ferrari unless you make very few numbers and it outperforms those mentioned above. Learn from the pricing mistakes of the previous two generations of RX.

Lastly, be true to yourselves. If this concept is built and cares the RX nameplate, it should be true to its heritage of an affordable, "high" performance, great driving sports car, not a GT.

If they price it right for a reasonable volume production their could be a business case for it. Suggestion. Team up with FCA again and co-develop a platform for a sports car coupe in much the same way they collaborated on the Miata and 124. That reduces cost. Next try and develop the rotary to make it viable but have a back up engine incase the rotary is not. I suggest a 2.0 or 2.5 turbo(from the CX9) but tuned aggressively for higher RPM performance. Tweak the design so it sits a little higher with a slightly taller greenhouse for production.Price it similar to Z car from Nissan. if Mazda can do these things then it potentially has a winner on it's hands.
