SPIED: Get UP CLOSE And PERSONAL With The 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class — NEW Photos, NEW Details
Although I recently brought forward all-new images of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class undergoing developmental testing, another set of pictures have come forward and my they're a Duesey. That's because it's not just one R&D car this time around.

There's a fleet!

It appears that a large engineering team set out to do some testing while a spy may have caught them at a stopover. For a spy that means they hit a jackpot full of gold.

While there's clearly a bunch of 2017 model year S-Class' there's also something a bit interesting. That would be the Maybach S600 that is equipped with the Mercedes-AMG S65 front clip. This isn't the first time we've seen an R&D car equipped like this, we also saw the same treatment on the initial Maybach mules. We'll see if the Maybach brand gets a tie-in with AMG.

Back to the standard S-Class though. In these new photos, you can make out some of the details that will change with this refresh. Now we're seeing the headlights in extreme detail. Note the usage of LED technology. In addition, the front clip will be modified to let the S breathe a bit easier — the intakes appear larger. Lastly, the rear end will get a modified rear clip with newly integrated exhaust finishers.

Oh look! It's the new, updated C-Class only bigger.

The S Class is a magnificent car. In its current form, it trounces the competition. The tweaks that Mercedes gives it will reinforce that in the segment no other car will do.

I'd love to see Jaguar ditch Callum's hideous XJ and replace it with something gorgeous like the Bertone B99 because that's what Jaguar needs.

I'd love to see Cadillac do an Elmiraj aimed at the S Class even if they lost money on every single one they built because that's what Cadillac needs.

BMW and Audi are in a styling malaise.

I sat in the new CT-6 today and I love it. Its a fantastic car and was impressed with the fit and finish. I didn't study it nor linger for hours but while I was there is was very enjoyable. I didn't drive one as I was pressed for time but will soon. The Platinum model had a stitched leather dash that was gorgeous. I found the whole thing extremely compelling. I absolutely do not like the interiors, especially the dash of the S Class, I hate the dash of the C Class and the new E is ehh... they're garish. Everything from Leather to Keyless Go is an option which is crap. This CT6 3.0TT is really world class and its a real luxury car. That said, I want GM to mate their 3.0 TT engine to produce a 6.0TT V-12 to silence the critics... in the words of Ben Stiller in Starky & Hutch, "do it....do it...do it!" Oh... but alas the dealership experience, ugh. The dealer was in a crappy part of town though the facility was nice, nothing like the Benz dealer down the street. But, the cars inside the dealer were locked with the windows open. I immediately said, can you unlock these cars please. WHY would they do that? Once I asked that question, NONE of the sales folks came over to me... finally one did and he was terrific, I would absolutely buy a car from him, but then comes the pathetic levels of service... GM... fix this, ASAP. You'll sell one and then never again...

I've had the opportunity to sit in and drive the CT6. It's a brilliant effort wrapped in utter dullness. The dumb CT6 name is the nail in the coffin. Here people are looking at it, but when offered a test drive are saying "they don't have time".

Cadillac needs a bespoke mid-sized "Escalade" and the slightly-new XT5 is not it.

I already have a CT6 - which I bought for my mother - I bought the Naturally aspirated V6 - and I love it (ANd I have an S600 12 Cylinder to compare it to). Based on the weight of the car - the car is surprisingly competent - more than enough power for street use - even with a bunch of grand kids in the car. It has more room inside than my old Grand Marquis and is a far better car than a number of Mercedes I have owner over the years. Unfortunately - Cadillac dealers are generally older than most makes - so their facilities are not as clean and new looking. But I bought from a locally owned one - whose people were about as good as you would want. I actually had the bad experience when I bought my first Mercedes - when a salesman actually told me to get my hands off the car because "you only wish you could afford it". I had the cash for in my pocket. Still - I think the Arts and Science look has been kept too long - and while the CT6 looks decent - they should move on to another styling.

Hate the large big a@@ dash and screen. MB you can do better on the interior dash layout. Let's not let Buick memories run through your vein. Beautiful exterior.

Why not make the interior one giant screen that stretches completely across the front and sides of the doors? Then make the exterior one big grille all around—front, back, and sides. What MB and other car companies don't seem to realize is that if you make everything big and bold to stand out, nothing really stands out. It's basic Design 101. Fail.
