Apple Hires Former BMW & Mercedes Satellite Navigation Development Leader
Apple Inc. has hired Sinisa Durekovic, a software engineer who led the development of satellite navigation systems used by luxury carmakers including BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi.

Durekovic, who joined Apple in an unspecified role in October, was principal architect and then chief engineer for navigation at Harman International Industries Inc., whose systems are used by several automakers.

Evidently, they couldn't get anyone from world-leader of all things GPS, Garmin, so they settled on someone who does those crappy, overpriced factory nav systems instead :-(

Which is funny, because the big 3 purchased Here to do their nav going forward. That says a lot about Apple's new hire.

A software engineer is different from a User Interface(UI) Designer which can be different from User Experience Engineer.

Don't blame the software engineer for the mistakes made designing the user interface or compromises made to the User Experience by the "powers that be".
