Elon Musk Worries More About Apple Challenging Tesla Than Google

Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk is watching the competition closely — including electric cars from existing manufacturers, and of course, potentially Apple. But he said at Vox Media’s Code Conference that he doesn’t view Google as a potential competitor.

More clearly, he views that companies that might choose to work with Google as direct competitors to Tesla Motors. “Google’s done a great job of showing the potential of autonomous transport, but they’re not a car company.”

Apple, however, is another matter. There has been a lot of speculation as to whether Apple will produce its own car. Musk was a bit coy on stage, but of course he has more information than most out there — so if he’s taking Apple seriously as a competitor, there’s a good chance the idea is at least being tossed around.

“Apple, yeah, that’ll be more direct,” he said.

So far, all I've heard is wild conjecture that Apple is working on creating their own car, as opposed to focusing on in-car infotainment, which would be a logical extension of the Apple ecosystem (iPhone, iPad, iTunes, iTunes Store, selling and streaming music, the world's biggest music retailer, etc.) and their corporate direction so far.

Yeah, I know... the wild conjecture COULD have some truth to it. Or it could be just that: wild conjecture. Does anyone have any solid facts (as opposed to conspiracy theories) that Apple is actually working on creating their own car?

Why would you think anyone that have "solid facts" would post on this website? Website like this is a place where people can make wild conjecture about Apple making a car as well as why Apple is not making a car.

As an aside, Apple is not where they are because of pursuing "logical extension of Apple ecosystem". If they did, they wouldn't have made ipod from their mac and macintosh computer, not from ipod to smart phone, etc. Heck, given their history of making surprising entrance to new and unexpected product segment, I would be disappointed if Apple doesn't announce they're going to start selling bacon by Christmas time.
