MORE Pictures Of The All-New Audi A5 And S5 — Does It Look BETTER In These Shots?
When Audi revealed the A5 and S5 years ago, it was a big deal. That's because it was an all-new form factor that complemented the popular A4 and S4 sedans, and it looked amazing.
It was sharp and classy. There was a certain sex appeal to it and both men and women were drawn to it.
Audi A5 and S5
Fast forward to this week. Now we're seeing the second-gen Audi A5 and S5, and if we're honest, not much has changed. Rather than look like an all-new product it looks like a mild refresh. This isn't a surprise given what we saw with the 2017 Audi A4, we're just hoping the four rings delivers a much improved driving experience.
That was not the A5 or S5's strong suit.
In these all-new photographs; however, I think we may be seeing the A5 and S5 in all-new light. Some, which were taken at the world premiere, show the S5 equipped with a better set of wheels and seems to give off a better impression — at least to my eyes.
Having said that, I am a bit curious:
Do these all-new snaps make it look BETTER or WORSE to you?

Not ugly but not special in any way. This is a stumble.

Sadly, no. I think the A5 looked best in 2012 or so. That's when the lines, the shape, and the headlights were all at their best. I agree with MDarringer's comments that it's not ugly, but it doesn't inspire me to even want to learn more about, or even see it in person.
It's too bad that recent AutoSpies shots were just photochops and not the real thing. THAT was a seriously attractive (though totally fictional) A5!

Hi my name is Beige. I love plain vanilla ice cream. I go to bed at 8 o'clock. I drive under the speed limit, never turn on red, and I'm always mindful of my other fellow drivers. I get tested regularly for prostate cancer.. for health reasons only

Yes, in some pictures it looks better. Why? Because in some pictures you can't see the overly busy hoodlines. And in other pictures you can't see the conflicting fender curves conflicting with the numerous angular elements.
Is Audi the only brand that gets this treatment from the Agents? The Q7 got blasted for its design, then a "does it look better to you now" article was posted. Now the same with the A5. I don't recall the same happening with the BMW 7 which got toasted for its design. Or, really, any other brand.

i was one of those people that LOVED the s5 and still like it, but this new one looks like a refresh, very sad this was all audi could come up with. credit to lexus for going bold with their new designs and taking chances. this is just way too safe and bland.

There is a lot of unnecessary surface lines on the side fenders and doors. The previous design was simple and elegant. This is a bit overwrought in my opinion. It's kind of like sketching something and not know when to say the sketching is finished for this drawing. It just looks overdone. My other criticism is the interior. A coupe should have a bit of an encapsulated feeling around the driver. The BMW 4 series has it as does the 6 series. The previous version of the A5 did as well. Not this new version.Pity.
