Staging A Comeback? F-Pace And XE Lead Jaguar To An Astounding 80% Increase In May Sales

After breaking its one-year-old sales record with a sharp increase to more than 61,000 sales in 2002, Jaguar’s U.S. sales decline began with a vengeance. Jaguar USA volume plunged 80 percent between 2002 and 2009 and has not since recovered. Under Ford Motor Company’s tutelage, Jaguar sold more cars in the United States in 2002 than in the last four years combined.

Yet seemingly overnight, May 2016 played host to a completely revolutionized Jaguar lineup. Year-over-year, U.S. sales at the Jaguar brand shot up 80 percent in May 2016. Thanks to two new products which instantly became Jaguar’s two best-selling models and generated more than half of all Jaguar sales, the Indian-owned British carmaker once again appears poised to approach the borders of America’s premium mainstream.

Cut good deals. Take care of the customers as if these are Rolls Royces. Fix everything beyond expectation and Jaguar could have a shot. If however, poor reliability is still built in the increase will be short lived.

Hope it works out for Jaguar - the products are finally world-class. They deserve some success.

At whose expense? BMW's and Lexus' products are kinda' sucky now, so perhaps it will be their loss?

We'll see if they are world-class good. Reliability needs a massive improvement. I don't regret dumping Jaguar because JLR was not a good partner to dealers. Let's hope an exorcism has happened.

the XE and F-pace are really nicely designed products. They look great and handle well and exude emotion which you can't get much from others these days

You've seen production versions of both in the flesh?

The nearest dealer to me is two hours away so I have not ventured over. LOL They may not be happy to see me because when I pushed the group to drop the Jaguar franchise--it was causing us thousands of dollars of loss per month--Jaguar dumped our unsold inventory on that dealer.

I am happy to see more companies taking on the Germans. I love German cars but I love variety even more. I think JLR has largely exorcised their reliability deamons from what I have seen, although they may not quite be at the Germans level yet it would be almost indistinguishable to most owners. Now let the Koreans jump in as mentioned elsewhere on Autospies and see what they can do. Japan on the other hand seems stuck in a very slow cycle of development. I would love to see them at their best too when they were putting out the original NSX, a great RX-7 and awesome 300ZX Turbo. Cars like the Maxima were at least trying to make an impact… what happened over there??? US is doing ok, but seems to not know what they want to be at least in the Sedan area. Two words for Cadillac to bring them back - El Miraj. Lincoln… hmmm not thrilled with the new Continental, wish they would reach back to the 62-64 era Continental for inspiration. My 13 cents worth.

Given that the Germans are not exactly paragons of reliability, for Jaguar to be below them would only perpetuate the problem. If, however, Jaguar could demonstrate BETTER reliability than the Germans, they would have a chance at being a valid car company. The XE and F Pace cannot stumble in any way. The sooner they replace the terrible looking XJ with something that (1) is as gorgeous as the Bertone B99 and (2) truly challenges the S Class--the current one simply doesn't--the better Jaguar will be

I'm somewhat confused, except for the airbag fiasco much to you europhiles chagrin the japanese have not fell off in reliability. I've owned 1 nissan and 4 Infinitis since 2002, I've only needed warranty service once and the 1st infiniti was 8 years old. Sorry, but not sorry guys but the lowliest Japanese versa is still light years ahead of the german luxury triumvirate in build quality

There is tremendous automotive bigotry by those who blindly worship the European products (cue: "My Mercedes S600...."), but it's the same jingoism that Hitler expected that is borne of a fear that other are better so go ahead and be bellicose is their mantra.

The fact is that in the premium segment, Lexus, Infiniti, Genesis, and Cadillac have a far lower service incident level (i.e. unscheduled service) than the supposedly better Germans. Fanboys ignore Jaguar's continuing reliability issues. Yes, they are better than years ago, but they are not as good as Lexus by any stretch of the imagination. The most clusterducked of the fanboys are those predicting that the Giulia will be a game changer.
