Tesla Claims Logs In Model X Crash Point To Driver Error

Earlier this morning, we reported on a strange Model X accident that ended with the SUV crashing into a building in Irvine, California. Fortunately, no one was severely injured in the accident, but the Model X owner claims that the vehicle accelerated on its own while entering a parking space and the driver was unable to decelerate before it ‘autonomously’ crashed into the building.

We contacted Tesla and the company reviewed the logs around the time of the accident.  A representative is now assuring us that the Autopilot was not at fault and that the vehicle operated in a way consistent with the driver’s actions.

Good thing Tesla vehicles have logs! According to the article, Tesla reports "...[the] data shows that the vehicle was traveling at 6 mph when the accelerator pedal was abruptly increased to 100%. Consistent with the driver’s actions, the vehicle applied torque and accelerated as instructed..."

Too bad Audi and Toyota didn't have similar "black box" functionality that could have painted such a clear picture.

Reason dictates that Tesla will NOT become the next casualty in a widespread "unintended acceleration" debacle, which ultimately is proven out to be a result of "pedal misapplication" (or "driver error" in less polite terms). However, we know that the media and social media don't always behave in a "reasonable" manner.

of course this log is from Tesla....program to never blame Tesla, but their driver! When a company is base on a Ponzi Scheme...should their software be trusted? More and more similiar issues are coming into the light!

As much as I would love to do a happy dance over this news of Tesla having to explain itself--even if they did not have driver data--the most obvious explanation is driver error.

Don't tell 60 Minutes this. I hear that have a gangbuster "Tesla is possessed by Satan" segment in the works for their show.

Not saying they are lying, but logs are only useful and trustworthy if they can be independently verifed.

While I completely agree, something tells me Tesla is able to read/monitor the force applied on each pedal in conjunction with monitoring motor output relative to gps data on the vehicle.

Do you actually think this WASN'T driver error? I am the resident Tesla HATER on this site, but this was driver error not Tesla creating a bad product. Are you a civil attorney by trade?
