Odd. Unrelated: The military is doing several GPS blackout tests. China Lake is scheduled for a block of days in July. The GPS block at China Lake is supposed to have a 300 mile radius. I wonder how LAX, SFO, and Phoenix are supposed to manage air traffic, but the test is apparently public knowledge.

We still use radar as our primary method of controlling traffic. Most commercial aircraft have navigation that isn't totally dependent on GPS, and of course still have the ground based navigational aids.

There are currently 4 separate locations that the military will conduct GPS jamming during the month of June. Some last for the entire month, while another is only a single day. The military does this constantly, and almost never causes an issue with air traffic. The tests themselves are usually done in short time periods and rarely cause a complete loss of signal for any length of time.

And by four locations, I only meant in the Western US. My area of responsibility ends just east of the Rockies (but extends all the way to Guam to the west).

I was affected by this. My new ride is a GS350 and according to Lexus of North Miami they are inundated with calls and people lining up at the dealership.
