RENDERED SPECULATION: If The All-New Audi A8 Looks Like THIS, Would YOU Give It Two Thumbs UP or DOWN?
A vehicle we've been eagerly awaiting is the all-new Audi A8. Although some have claimed that cars like the all-new Audi Q2 were the first Marc Lichte effort, that's not the case.

According to the Audi leaders I've spoken with, the watershed moment for Lichte will come with the debut of the all-new A8. This is the car that Audi will debut and is said to shake up the company's rather bland design language.

There's just one problem. The first spy shots have emerged and it doesn't look so groundbreaking.

It just looks like the current-gen A8 with a much more spread front grille — it's not particularly promising.

As you may expect, this has gotten plenty of flack from publishers and enthusiasts alike. So, now what? Our friends at Carscoops had an artist render what they think the all-new A8 will look once the camouflage comes off.

That said, we wanted to share it with you: IF the next-gen A8 looks like THIS will you give it two thumbs UP or DOWN?

Same car, new face. I will take the S Class for real style that isn't the same as last model.

Before you embarrass yourself and say something about Audi design is a Photoshop by a kid in his mom's basement not a design from Audi

Pst. We've seen the spy photos.

Unfortunately, this render ISN'T far of from the camo'd cars.

let's talk about current "Audi design" language a bit - you can't possibly be impressed by these evolutionary design face-lifts:
1. Q7 last generation was more attractive
2. TT no real change
3. R8 no real change
4. A4 no real change

So it should be no surprise if the A8 follows the above theme of boring boxy evolutionary face-lifts like the other models. It's one thing if the mainstream VW brand is safe and boring - it's competing with safe and boring Toyota, Honda, etc. But Audi is going against MB, Jaguar, Alfa, and Maserati, all of which have doubled down on their commitment to design. The Audi buyer clearly wants a sleeper car that blends in with the concrete jungle - design notwithstanding.

Before you embarrass yourself that is, Audi's design has been the same for a long time. When they say all new it's usually a fascia and small interior design change which is exactly what the next one is. Take a look at Mercedes and BMW those are REAL design changes. The side view of the Audi is the same for yrs...

Yes - the car is certainly not an Oldsmobile - and if they price it under it - it might even sell even with the Buick Lacrosse - its natural competition. It is one of the few cars that can make the Buick look good too.

Let's hope that's wrong.

If Mark Lickme can create something truly stunning, I will be the first to laud it.

The above is a toilet floater.

Looks like an extra large Passat, TWO THUMBS DOWN

How does this even come close to the svelte luxurious exterior of the current S Class?

WTF! This better not be a true rendering or else Audi is the laziest car company in the world

Well, though a rendering (and a pretty darn close one based on the spy shots we've seen), it's an improvement over the current. Yes, it's just a half step forward, but it's cleaner. With the flush, larger, rear quarter window, it adds a bit of elegance that's missing in the current, along with the fender crease. Ironically, it reminds me of the first generation A5 that was so well received - clean, appropriately flowing lines.

It's funny to see everyone fall for Audi's A8 test mule. The whole reason why Audi camouflaged the vehicle and used the current A8's body is to throw people like Autospies off. Audi is succeeding in its mission.

Anyone who has followed Audi at all over the last 3 years can tell you the new brand design strategy is on its way. From the company's 2012 press release to its 2013 hiring of a new design chief in Marc Lichte, it is clear the brand is going to go in a very different design direction than its current offerings.

I seriously can't believe people are this gullible after all that Audi has announced and changed within its ranks.

Make no mistake, the new A8 will be a huge departure from the current model.

Someone is drinking the kinky KoolAid. The introduction of the new A8 us practically upon us. Given that, it would NOT still be wearing current gen sheet metal.

The new A5 is a disappointment....no reason to believe the A8 will be any different.... simply not aspirational, so two thumbs way down!

I suppose it's easy for everyone to be a critic.
Designing a car isn't a simple task of just designing a car and "presto" it's ready for sale.
I'm not saying I'm in the industry and that I know everything there is to know, but apply a bit of logic to what needs to be done. Sheet metal or aluminum needs to be pressed. The 'robots' need to be reprogrammed. The 'new' design needs to support the existing/new engines/platform. Potentially a "line" in the assembly needs to be allocated for this specific car if it's drastically different.
I agree that the "new" A4, A5 and Q7 are not a revolution in design, but they will sell to the Audi client. I doubt Audi would like to see sales #'s drop b/c they took chances. After all they're in the business to make money. Even during the dieselgate issues, Audi is still selling cars and making a profit. Must be doing something right.
Audi is not here to impress those of you who think they're using a photocopier.
