Tesla Model Y – Is It Just a Rumor?

However, up until recently there wasn't any real piece of information to hint at a new model. This changed dramatically when Elon Musk tweeted that the fourth model is in the works - the Tesla Model Y.

With many major car makers offering incrementally smaller SUV/CUV in their lineup, it's fairly obvious Tesla will do at least a Model "Y" based on the 3 with none of the hubris found on the X. Due to Model 3 production ramp, it may be several years away but the development time will be much shorter. It may be late but will no doubt be a hit

I love the naming scheme.... S, 3, X, Y (and the 3 was supposed to be an E).

The article is mixing up the Model Y with the 4th generation car. The Model Y will be either a CUV or SUV version of the Model 3 (this was supposed to be released one year after the Model 3, but 2019 is most likely). The 4th generation car will be a smaller platform than the Model 3 and even lower in cost. My guess is 2021-2022 would be the soonest a "Model 4" would come out. I'd expect a starting price of $20-25k.
