Toyota Tell Dealers To Stop Hiding The Fact That Are Selling Cars With Defective Airbags

Stung by critics who revealed it is still using potentially defective Takata airbags in some of its new products, Toyota has told U.S. dealers they must disclose to buyers which vehicles will be subject to recall by 2018.

At least four automakers have continued using Takata inflators in some of their vehicles because of a shortage of new airbags using a safer design. The shortage has created a major problem for the industry, delaying repairs and forcing the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to announce a phased recall of additional Takata airbags.

I'm curious as to your reaction when the salesman tells you the car you are thinking of buying has a defective airbag? I know my wife would walk out of the dealership in a nano second and after some thought about this I have to say I would look elsewhere too.

And the unscrupulous car dealers will sell the cars, defective or not.

Oh wait, strike the word unscrupulous - it's not necessary.

The fact is that ALL brands that have Takata air bags are potentially selling cars with defective airbags--which has been widely reported--and consumers know that the Takata airbag scandal has no end in sight as for replacing the tens of millions of airbags. Thus, Toyota decided to shoot itself in the foot.

If we're talking moral compass, the faux moral indignation of people who shake their jowls and point their fingers are the greater idiocy.

Should companies stop all production because they do not have non-Takata airbags? #illogical

Should dealers be held responsible for what the car company does, but not the car company itself? #illogical
