I really like the steering wheel and the shift knob. BMW three spoke steering wheels are really cool looking.

I think the old one looks better but lexusis350 ur very right about the gear knob, as for the stearing wheel the old 3 spoke one looks better and im not too keen on the feel of the material on the new steering wheel type judging from the 545i. The back looks like an E39 (previous 5-series model) hatchback and the tires are too wide compared to the body. The current X5 4.8 is one hell of a car i have to say.

Yeah, the back tires look very awkward on this.

Why do you think the pictured car has Rhode Island license plates? Is it significant?

ToyotaLexus-

And is it a bad thing that this car looks like a raised E39 Estate? I don't think so, beacause the last-gen 5 Series wagon was very good-looking ((I can't say the same about the new wagon). Also, the wide-body look to it makes it seem very agressive.

Interior is a huge improvement. I like the looks inside and out.

mstangpny07-

Does it say in the brochure whether or not the E70 is standard with iDrive?

mstangpny07mstangpny07 - 10/1/2006 10:52:43 AM
+1 Boost
Although I don't think it said anything in the brochure, it is standard.
BUT, as you can see, several audio controls and many climate control buttons are out of iDrive. So it's an improved version of the system in the 5 and 3 Series, which are improved versions of the one in the 7.

I've heard BMW North America is taking orders in a few weeks, and you should be able to build it online by late October. BMW NA has already started building the E70, and they are holding them at the factory until they have enough to send to every dealer in the states. I'm guessing they would all be 4.8, and are expected mid-November.

Navigation is OPTIONAL, but "on board computer" is standard.

Have there ever been a non-navi iDrive???

Yes. On the 5 Series Navi is an option but the Idrive is standard.

Not too happy with the Top Speed. (130mph for the 4.8 too)

I would have expected at least 155mph (Electronically Limited)

Were you planning on going 130 mph?

195,
tyre technology isn't good enough for winter grip and high top speed.

i loved the last gen 5 touring, more bmws should look like it.

DAMM!!!!!!!!!!
But the Cayenne Turbo/Turbo S had Top Speeds Over 155mph and Adequate Grip Levels for Winter Traction.
(Im not One Bit Happy about this Top Speed, I will get thrashed by my mate's Cayenne Turbo)

RupertRupert - 10/1/2006 5:47:38 PM

the cayenne turbo has 450 bhp, more than the 4.8 x5.
the "sport" x5 model may go faster, the last one did (normally 130 mph, sport could do 143), but it had increased co2 emissions due to wider tyres.

True, But the same friend had a Cayenne S before Upgrading to the Turbo and the S had a top speed of 150mph

I have just seen a section of the Article above that states the top speed on the 4.8 is 150 with 20in Wheels and High Performance tyres ( Thats more like it )

RupertRupert - 10/1/2006 6:28:27 PM

great, now we can all do 150 in a 7 seater.

question is, where and why?
and that does sound quite scary.

I95SPEEDINGTICKETSI95SPEEDINGTICKETS - 10/1/2006 6:37:52 PM

Actually its not.
Sorta feels like 150mph in a 540 wagon or A6 4.2 Avant which is Okay, Thats why I would only attempt it in the X5 or Cayenne ( Seriously Tempted by that Q7 V12 TDI Though ) If the Price is not too Cut-Throat when it is Launched I Might Just.......................

since my experience of suvs is limited to a 14 year old range rover in which bits of trim randomly fall off in the night, and which at above 75 is louder than a powerboat and has draughts through the door handles, i think you'll understand why doing 150 in an suv doesn't sound very enticing to me.

i do like the x5 though, and the last gen is getting cheap now, 18000 for a 4.4 is pretty good, only a couple of grand more than a 330 convertible, and it cost a load more initially.
used 7 is the best bargain though, 02 plate 745 for 20000. that is an amazing price.
i just need to find 20000 pounds somewhere though. maybe i should finish school and then decide what to do.

Thats the wierd thing, i don't need an SUV/SAV but I have been in Love with the X5 since i had one in 2001 in NY.
Having been driving a Grand Cherokee 4.7 V8 for about 14 months prior to the X5 4.4. The difference in the driving dynamics of the two was Stunning. While the Grand Cherokee was a Relatively Fast, Bouncy and Terrifying Suv the X5 just Blew it out of the Water in Poise, Acceleration, Comfort,............., Everything was soo much better that it to this day holds a Special place in my Heart. ( Maybe Im too Biased towards the X5 but hey.....:-)

The Audi RSQ was a concept vehicle that later became the R8 IIRC. It was in the movie I, Robot. (They only used Audi in the movie)
