BMW To Best Selling Model Production To Mexico - Would That Tarnish Your Love For The 3-Series?
BMW AG will revive North America output of its best-selling U.S. model when it begins producing the next-generation 3-series sedan in a new factory here starting in 2019.

BMW said it plans to build as many as 150,000 3-series cars, and possibly another vehicle, at the plant annually. The company is investing $1 billion to establish the plant, its second North American manufacturing hub.

The 3 series, one of the top-selling luxury cars marketed in the U.S., will be redesigned in 2018. The next 3 series sold in the U.S. will be built elsewhere then assembled in the Mexico plant in 2019. BMW did not provide any details about the possible second vehicle.

Since I am not a 3-series - or BMW lover - I really don't care if they make them in Siberia - these small SPORTS SEDANS offer nothing to someone as tall as I am.

BMW don't care....If the badge is still there...it could be made w/ child labor. Bmw owners don't give a fuck.

I've owned a German-made BMW 328 convertible and an American-made BMW Z3 2.8. I had them for many years. I couldn't tell the difference in terms of quality of workmanship, fit and finish, or lack of defects.

So much for the belief that Americans can't make cars as good as the Germans.

I admit I am suspicious of luxury car manufacturing in Mexico because of the stereotypes that still live in my head. We'll see pretty soon if those stereotypes are somewhat justified, or whether they, like the "Americans can't build cars" stereotype, are pure B.S. Audi's next generation Q5 is being made in their new Mexican factory. Other manufacturers are going there too. Remember when "Made in China" meant garbage, and now Denon A/V receivers and Apple iPhones are made there. Do you remember further back when "Made in Korea" meant garbage, when the Hyundai Pony was just an ugly little rust-bucket. And remember still further back when "Made in Japan" meant it was junk?

Yeah, the times, they are a changin'. Manufacturers go where cheap labor lives. Enjoy it while you can. Japan used to have cheap labor compared to the US.

Exactly right! Most Americans don't give a crap where things are made or the conditions the laborer's have etc... They want cheap, kind of a cut off your nose to spite your face. On the other hand you will hear whe whiners complaining about regulations etc.. I say BS, having had businesses in other countries many are far more regulated than the US but compete extremely well globally - Germany being a prime example. I certainly don't want to see the US move towards 3rd world conditions by unregulated corporatism as it exists in many, maybe most poorer countries. Water stinks and is toxic, air burns your nose, people working like dogs for pennies etc... I say bring everyone up not race to the bottom, The integration of Spain into the European Common Market after Franco was a good example of how to do trade right.

I would NEVER buy a vehicle made in Mexico. I have owned BMWs, MB, Audi and VWs The one VW I owned was made in Mexico - this was piece of crap. The VW Wolfsburg Edition that I took a European delivery on was bullet proof. Too many rattles, squeaks and such - could be something they're drinking for lunch down there - The Big "T".

The 3 Series was American-made at one time and that didn't abate its following. Mexican-built vehicles have excellent quality. The Fusion and MKZ come from there and their build quality is excellent.

The fact is that production country of origin does not determine the German-ness of German cars.

The Buick Envision is as American as it could possibly be and yet it's from China.

The headline begs the question of cultural bigotry more than it has anything to do with quality of construction.

This is unsurprising given the high labor costs and huge amounts of regulation in the United States.

Not interested in any Mexican BMW.
Mexican makes great tacos and burritos but NOT high performance cars.
