RENDERED SPECULATION: If THIS Is What The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Looks Like, Would YOU Give It A Shot?

In my previous thread I was sure to showcase an all-new video featuring the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Alfa Romeo Stelvio. While we're sure it's going to dive deep into the FCA parts bin and do a bit of sharing, we're also thinking that it's going to take after its sibling, the Giulia.

Having said that, it turns out that some creative photoshop artists have the same idea.

That brings us to this render via Vince Burlapp. As you can see, the vehicle imagined bears a strong resemblance to the all-new four-door sedan. Honestly though, after looking at the video we just saw we think the facade will be even closer to the Giulia.

If you rewatch the spy video you'll note the front grille is nearly identical — just a different scale — and the front valence mirrors the Giulia. In the render the front valance is more prominent for the air intakes.

Proportionally, it appears as though the Stelvio will follow in the footsteps of BMW's X1, Audi Q3, Lexus NX and Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class. There's just one difference: It will have sharper styling where the BMW seems a touch goofy, the Audi is a bit too clinical, the NX is too sharp and the Mercedes is a little too rounded off.

So, we have to ask: IF FCA builds a Stelvio that looks like THIS, would YOU give it a shot against the latest and greatest from Audi, BMW, Lexus and Mercedes?

Assuming we believe Burlapp...

If the image is accurate, from the front it is quite good looking.

What makes the Stelvio a "no go" for me is the Frankenstein platform under it.

Take a discarded Mercedes platform, dumb it down and create the "all-new" Chrysler 300 platform. Take that platform and tinker with the front suspension and you have the "all new" platform under the Qporte and Ghibli. Take that platform and chop out some wheelbase and narrow it and you have the "all new" platform of the Giulia.

When the Giulia failed crash testing, I wasn't surprised.

I do think that the Stelvio will be a success.

What annoys me is that a Dodge Dart version of the Giulia and a Journey off the Stelvio are nowhere in sight.

What ever platform its got Ferrari engineers definitely had a hand some point in its development. All the publications give the Giulia high marks for ride, handling, engine noise and refinement. This applies to the twin turbo V6 and the turbo 4 cylinder as well. The only place it seems to fall a little bit is in interior material quality. Audi and Mercedes are rated at the top. So I have no doubt this car had a troubled gestation. It started out FWD/AWD and then Marchionne changed his mind resulting in a restart from scratch. Then there was the time factor. He wanted development to be completed in record time. In spite of all this the car has come out well. It really does not matter if it is related to an old Mercedes platform that has been revised and cut down etc.. It's all about how the ingredients mesh together. So my guess is the Stelvio should please. As long as you've got Ferrari people involved it should end up being decent.

The idea that Ferrari engineers "did something" is pure marketing BS. If you really think about it Ferrari has no experience with cars like the Giulia and Stelvio, so having them weigh in on their development could actually compromise them.
