DRIVEN: So, What’s The BMW i8 REALLY Like? Long-Term Test Kicks Off
The BMW i8 is one of those cars that really is tough to accurately describe and define. It’s not really an outright sports car like a Porsche 911, and it’s certainly not a cruiser like a Mercedes-Benz SL-Class.

Using technology similarly to today’s top three supercars, the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder, one could surmise it is the discounted supercar. I don’t think they’d be wrong, either.

But aside from philosophical arguments about the nature of a hybrid sports car/supercar/whatever, we’re a bit more curious what the BMW i8 is really like. Although I drove it during a testing period and concluded it was a wonderful piece of machinery, we want to know how it is to live with long term.

Our friends at Autocar just so happened to get that chance.

As lease prices are coming down on the i8 — currently $1,389/month for 36 months with $7,814 due at signing in the New York Tri-State region — it can be considered a relative bargain. Especially when you consider that you can chalk up 40 mpg as I experienced.

What would YOUR expectations be? Would you get tired of hopping over the carbon fiber tub’s massive door sill? Would you learn to love the three-cylinder gasoline motor’s engine note?

BMW has lost its way.

Its driving machines are no longer the "Ultimate".
Its products are designed by committee.
Its management/dealers are bureaucratic.
Its quality is low (Mini - the lowest and BMW turbo engines - better buy that extended warranty).

BMW has come to embody everything that is wrong with the EU. No wonder Britain wants to leave!

its not a ferocious sports car, its just futuristic looking, and drives very well over all.
