SPIED + RENDERED SPECULATION: If The Next-Gen Audi S5 Sportback Looks Like THIS, Will You Have Your Deposit Ready?

The other day I took off from work. I had woken up not feeling so hot and after the launch of an all-new website for the technology company I work for, I was throughly burnt out. After grabbing lunch from a local mom and pop, I was heading back to my place down the main boulevard when I saw it.

Boasting a large front grille and plenty of swirly camouflage on its facade from the B-Pillar back, I recognized its silhouette immediately.

It was the all-new Audi A5/S5 Sportback undergoing testing right in my neighborhood. The B9 A4 equipped with Michigan-issued manufacturer plates further confirmed this. It was traveling in the other direction so I could not get my camera out fast enough.

For me this isn’t a huge surprise given that Volkswagen Auto Group’s east coast training and testing facility is a stone’s throw from my home, but I usually never see them on local streets. And, it was especially cool given that there’s been some speculation as to whether or not it will arrive on U.S. soil. Personally, I am putting my money on it that the car will arrive here in with this second-gem product.

While I wasn’t too sold on the last-gen A5 Sportback that arrived in Europe only, I have to say that this one did look a bit better. And, to help you imagine this, a Photoshop artists extraordinaire has made it a virtual reality.

That said, IF Audi were to build this and ship it to The States, would you get your deposit in hand?

No. Audi needs to move on from this design. Every Fusion, Genesis, Avalon, 200, Impala, Malibu, amongst many others have this greenhouse now. Audi needs to set a new design trend.

@BobM The A5 is all new. Thus, changing the styling would have been easy.

I know it's just a rendering, but this could be the best looking iteration of the new A4/A5 lineup. I'll be highly interested to see how it comes out, and may just be my next car.

I have to admit, I agree with you.

BobM, you are right about the engineering costs and consumer loyalty but give credit where credit is due as I don't think for example Lexus or Mazda (you talk of "Asian copycats") are imitating anyone. Quite the contrary, I believe those two brands are going on distinctively design routes however polarizing.

Lexus copy ? who would have come up with the crap designs they have today anyway ? Mazda is no copycat . The Koreans and chinese well thats a different story. Look at the slow evolution of Porsche and how good they are at keeping a Porsche looking like a Porsche. Kudo's to the Germans

@BobM, not even sure where to start with you so I'll just say this. I was not criticizing Audi if you knew how to read. I simply stated that the design theme that Audi essentially started (with the A5 sportsback and the A7) has been copied by many brands so it's no longer unique and distinctive. If you don't get that, then that's fine. yes, this is a rendering, but based on Audi's recent efforts, I doubt the new A5 Sportback will stray much from its current design.

I'm more interested in what the new generation A6/S6/RS6 will look and perform like.
