VIDEO SHOOTOUT: Mercedes GLC vs Lexus NX vs Infiniti QX50 vs Lincoln MKC

If you're in the market for a compact premium SUV and accept any type of suggestions, this comparison test from Kelly Blue Book might help you with your dilemma.

The reviewers took four rivaling models on a 500-mile (804 km) road trip from LA to Paso Robles (near San Francisco) and back, in order to help consumers decide. Their route included both twisty sections as well as highways, but it was on the highway where the KBB team made some their most important finding, just like they did in stop & go traffic.

Paso Robles is most decidedly NOT near San Francisco.

I am hoping that Ford will eventually give Lincolns better interiors. I have several gripes about Lincoln interiors. The transmission push buttons done in low-grade, hard plastic are just low rent. I had hoped that when they redid the MKZ that it would have lost the Fusion's interior door panels--it didn't.

As for the MKC, I find that the Ford version is the better deal. The Escape is better looking and can have virtually all the same options for less. Of course, given how steeply the MKZ and MKC are discounted to move them off the lot, you can drive a Lincoln for the price of a Ford.

The genius move would have been to have axed the MKZ and installed the Continental at the MKZ's price point.

Every opinion here doesn't matter. Only one is sales figures...and Lexus NX is the winner! by FAR!

For the price of the MKC, a better option that many buyers have elected is the more attractive Ford Explorer XLT.

Which is a better choice--despite its old platform--than the much newer MKX.

I look at the picture and think about that Sesame Street song: One of these things is not like the other...

When you put the Mercedes into the picture, how can it not be the clear winner? In my mind, the GLC is done really nicely. The Europeans get the super-efficient GLC250d diesel with 369 lb-ft of torque, which critics have called "smooth and refined".

Why does the QX50 even exist? It approches the segment wrong in so many ways.

And its sales confirm your critique.

The Infiniti, I'm still scratching my head why anyone buys this car. The platform is what 7 years old, but I've always thot it was just weird. o The Lexus is simply hideous but I as pleased the MK-C beat it as its a really nice looking car but I'm with Matt, a better interior please. I've only seen one "Black Series" MK-C and that is a creative option, but costly. I had a GLC when my wife's 15 GLK was in the shop and I didn't much care for it. The power (241bhp) is adequate but I hate the turbo 4 as its sooo buzzy and the GLK had the 3.5 V6 w/302 silky bhp. I think the GLC looks less attractive than other lesser cars in the entire small suv segment but also the reviewer reinforced my constant MB gripe which is price. The loaded GLC is approx $60k... that is just too much. The other 3 I think have leather std but MB its an option. HEY MB you used to be known for superior engineering but that was 25 yrs ago, clearly they're still living off that but then again, these are probably all leased and who wouldn't want the star?

Couldn't disagree more the wind noise alone from the former GLK would be enough for me to trade it in for the GLC due to the GLK's awkward shape and lack of aerodynamics.

The GLC while I feel it does hold as much road presence as Id like, I still think its a handsome sport ute and will age considerably better than the competition given most of the over dramatic cheap looking designs

Keep it up Merc! And not bad Lincoln

Car4Life has never said a bad thing about any MB so I'm surprised at the GLK comments. That said, the 6 in the GLK is a great engine, I also hate the buzzy 4 in the GLC and putting that in the E is a non-starter for me. I like how they pump pre-programmed engine sounds into the new E so it sounds better. Suppose for all the coin you're spending, they give you a tape recording vs a great motor. The GLK had a distinctive look, its instantly recognizable and the GLC looks like a Kia. The interior is ehhh... and the price, whew...

Suppose the GLS and G are also awkwardly shaped? The GLK is nearly a copy of the GL and the G is also a box...

I agree with Steve. The GLC doesn't compete with these cars. It's more in line with the QX70 and RX, though I guess the GLC does bisect the price points. So it should be expected to be the better vehicle here.

And the QX50 is just another lazy, lost effort by Infiniti. Just like with the Q70, they stretched the wheelbase and called it a day.
