BMW Says Joint Toyota Sportscar Will Not Get A "M" Designation

BMW Says Joint Toyota Sportscar Will Not Get A

My recent chat with the leader of BMW's M2 project revealed that while the cooperation between Toyota and BMW will indeed result in new vehicles and shared hybrid-electric technology, BMW's upcoming sports car, which will likely debut as a roadster, won't get the M treatment.

Meanwhile, what follows that from Toyota's side can easily be a size bigger thanks to the scalable architecture, and since they already secured the Supra name in Europe, the FT-1 concept remains our best guess at what to expect. If we can trust endless rumors surrounding this project, a coupe like that concept, with a BMW inline-six and some hybrid boost, is what Toyota has in mind for us in 2018.

As long as Toyota makes this model its high-performance flagship for the "everyman", I'm in!

Indeed. They really need to keep a lid on the price. If priced like a Mustang GT or a Camaro SS, it will be worth considering. Otherwise it will be a footnote.

The Nissan 370Z should serve as an example of what not to do.

Maybe BMW will have a TURD division, too.
