Final Nail Goes In The Coffin For Saab Nameplate

The chance of the Saab name being used on cars is gone, after parent company NEVS (National Electric Vehicle Sweden) agreed to not use the brand name.

This final confirmation follows years of uncertainty over Saab's future. NEVS’s agreement not to use the Saab name on any new cars comes after Saab AB, which now focuses primarily on the aerospace industry, revoked the brand name from NEVS.

Saab AB was parent company to Saab Automobile until 1990, when it sold the marque to General Motors.

In the end it doesn't really matter. When will NEVS do something of value? Nevs.

Sad day...SAAB cars were unique, quirky and desirable!

It's why they make Subarus.

GM was on the right track with the Saaburu, but their vision was a bit myopic.

SAAB and Subaru owners are similar in a number of ways. Having both brands share platforms with brand specific engines (i.e. no boxers for SAABs) could have been brilliant with SAAB being the premium "Subaru".

In 2013, I test drove a brand new 9-3 Aero convertible at the dealership. The salesman accompanied me. After about 10 minutes of driving, the car suddenly dropped dead. We had to wait half an hour to be towed back to the dealer. That was my first and LAST experience with a Saab.

Their reliability was horrific and repairs expensive.

I really liked the old Saabs before they were taken over by GM. Of course by then they were failing in car sales. GM just prolonged it for about 11 or 12 years. I think the only way for Saab to have survived was for Volvo to have absorbed them before they were bought by Ford. Volvo/Saab might have been a more viable venture if they were merged.
