SPIED: The Next-Gen Bentley Continental GT Gets Nabbed With Its PRODUCTION Body — Is It Heading In The RIGHT Direction?

Bentley certainly has its work cut out for itself. That’s because while the storied British marque has refreshed the flagship Mulsanne and introduced the all-new Bentayga, it still has to fill the company’s biggest shoes.

That’s right. It’s time for an all-new Continental GT.

This is a tall order because the original Continental GT was loved by just about everyone. It was a solid performer, comfortable and sold in record numbers. Essentially, it was the vehicle that took Bentley to another level.

How can it do it again? Easy. Make the follow up even better.

Though we’ve seen some early prototypes undergoing developmental testing, we’re now seeing the Continental GT equipped with production sheetmetal. Some elements may still be getting worked on — or at least I hope it is — because some pieces seem a bit peculiar. Take, for example, the blistered rear fenders and the rather large inner headlights that take inspiration from the EXP 10 Speed 6 concept car.

One thing I notice straight away is its much more purposeful and sporting stance. The all-new Continental appears like a crouched, ready-to-pounce cat. Perhaps this is a good indicator that with a significantly lower weight and greater performance it will be a more sporting product than a cruiser.

What do you make of the FIRST pictures of the next-gen Continental GT’s body?

...The next Continental will be based on a new platform called MSB co-developed by Bentley and Porsche. It will also be used in lengthened form for the next-generation Panamera, which explains why the test mule in earlier spy pictures used a shortened current Panamera bodyshell with an altered ride height and cooling to meet Bentley’s specifications.

The Continental range will be significantly lighter than the outgoing model, boss Wolfgang Dürheimer has said...

I kind of like the muscle car rear hunches from the Camaro and Mustang even if they are a little cliché. I'm not sure I'm sold on the headlight design, however.

The styling under the C-Pillar (Back of rear window) over the rear wheels is what he is talking about - and this is highly reminiscent of Bill Mitchell styling - especially in the Pontiac Grand Prix and Buick Riviera.

Perfect...the husband will love the sporty dynamics and the wife always wanted a Bentley.

The butt end is too much junk in the trunk flabby looking and the face is an eyesore. The current Continental is a very nice vehicle, but this one is likely to be much better dynamically because it will no longer be a VW Phaeton, BUT the exterior looks like a step backward.

It's too bad that Bentley is doing evolutionary styling as opposed to something dynamic and new.

That is clearly not its "production body".

We can see proportions and it's not brilliant.

Looks like a fat 599 to me. I'm not sure that's the image I'm looking for.
