STUD OR DUD? Porsche Drops The Fully Monte On The New Redesigned Panamera
Today, Tuesday, Porsche celebrated the world premiere of the new Panamera in Berlin to a spectacular display of lights, music and choreography. Over 300 international media representatives – as well as guests from politics, business, sports and society – saw, for the first time, the second generation of the Gran Turismo, which has been redeveloped from the ground up. The new Porsche Panamera reconciles two contrasting characteristics more than ever before: it offers both the performance of a sports car and the comfort of a luxury saloon.

“We have tapped into the segment of luxury sport saloons with the Panamera. Since it launched in 2009, more than 150,000 units of the Panamera have been sold. In the new model, you see here a completely redeveloped automobile – with new engines, a new design and new technologies. Also new is that we are now manufacturing the second generation vehicle entirely at our Leipzig production site. We have also invested a sum of 500 million euros – which includes a completely new body manufacturing facility,” emphasised Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG.

The design language of the new Panamera creates a link to the Porsche 911 by its even more dynamic flyline and specific design elements of the sports car icon. “An observer will immediately recognise the coupé-like roof line, but now it is much ‘faster’, even more dynamic and now includes a new side window look that emphasises the coupé-like side view even more,” said Michael Mauer, Head of Style Porsche AG, who explained the design targets that were set for the new model: “The new Panamera can be made out at first glance as a Panamera, but also as the new Panamera. Its strengths have been reinforced, its weaknesses eradicated and above all its character preserved.”

The new twin-turbo engines of the Panamera are more powerful, and thanks to the new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK II) they are up to 16 per cent more fuel-efficient. At the beginning of November, the Panamera will launch on the market with three different engines and exclusively with all-wheel drive:
as the Panamera Turbo with 550 hp, the Panamera 4S with 440 hp and the Panamera 4S Diesel with 422 hp.

For an even larger spread between comfort and sportiness, the Panamera now has such features as a new three-chamber air suspension, rear axle steering and the new electronic 4D Chassis Control chassis management system. Many new assistance systems also enhance ride comfort as well as safety.

In the new Panamera, Porsche is also introducing a future-oriented display and control concept. The new Porsche Advanced Cockpit with its smartphone-like user interfaces and configurable LED screens impresses with its intuitive functionality. In addition, the new Porsche Communication Management (PCM 4.1) offers an entirely new range of connectivity by its intelligent digital functions and online services. In the new Panamera, which customers can order now, Porsche Connect is being introduced in all models. It extends existing vehicle functions by adding digital services and apps such as those used for remote control of certain vehicle functions by smartphone – and others to more efficiently use one’s time during the drive.

Better but still not a "gotta have" design!

This is better than the current Panamera but still not great. The rear looks just like a Lincoln with the single slim strip running through the center.

Would you choose this over the new 750?

love it. Slightly more of a carved look with the contours makes it look slimmer and lighter in scale. Rear glass line reminds me of an A7 a bit. Overall I think it will be well received.

I absolutely love it, on visual appeal alone! I guess Porsche sings my song :-)

hmmmm....something is just missing for me, its not a bad looking car by any means, but I know Porsche can do better, guess I expected more from the 2nd generation Panamera...

The back end looks better than it did, but it still isn't for me.

Looks much better. I want to see up close pics of the dash and the center console. I thing it'll look great in dark colors. That blue is hideous. Overall...I give it a thumbs up...I fux with it.

I absolutely agree. I opined elsewhere that it would look good in blue. So why Ford Focus blue? The hue in the picture looks a bit too "neon" for me. A much darker blue and I think it would be sensational.

It appears to have better proportions than the outgoing one -but I would still want to see it in person first if I were interested. I would still not trade my s-600 for that.

@HenryN be prepared to be excoriated by the "straight but I'm tolerant yet intolerant of the stereotypical gays" bullsghitists here.

Its a handsome vehicle - MUCH better looking than the prior Panamera.

However, it is still awkwardly sized. Have you ever sat in or driven one? It feels "big" on the outside, but inside, it feels sized between the A4/3-series and the A6/5-series. Its tight.

Most people who are rational, will just go out and buy the fancy, sporty Audi RS7. It makes much more sense.

Its better looking but still odd. A two-door or cabrio would sell, but it would definitely cannibalize Bentleys on one side and 911's on the other side. Its a curious car.

There is a pecking order in regard of Porsches and Audis. Porsches are for executives whereas Audis are for accountants, hairdressers, ...

@— HenryN

Your "pecking order" remarks are quite hilarious considering Porsche models like the Boxster & Cayman are the established, de facto sports car for gays & effeminate men. LOL!

My comment was a sarcastic response to the "rational" comment above it. The cars mentioned are priced in 6 figures, not exactly a rational choice to begin with - if rational means what you get is proportional to the price. Saying a person buying the RS7 is more rational than the one buying the Panamera makes as much as sense the stereotypes I used.
If one can afford a $100K car then more power to him, I don't think anyone on this board can "talk" him out of buying it. If being rational is the primary goal in choosing a car, then you're better off with a Camry, or even a Hyundai.

From ungainly to bland. Not sure this is the right move, but it should still remain popular. Though ungainly, the outgoing car has character and presence. This one disappears from the photos. Not one single memorable line or design feature on the outside. The interior DOES look fantastic.

Sure looks like the 911 was the parent model for this 4 door version.

Much better than Gen 1! Must have this in my garage. When are they taking deposits?

One gripe. Wish the Turbo headlights were standard on all trims. The Cayenne LEDs look a little weak on the blue 4s

I'm neutral on the styling so I cannot really call it one way or another. Yes it has all the Porsche styling elements and I'm sure it is a very accomplished vehicle. However there are enough sedans that are prettier out there. I think it really lends itself to a 2DR 929 successor to the 928. Of course I would cut the wheelbase 10 inches as well as the length and then lower the height 2 inches. Then you could nudge it into the stud column.
