YOU Decide: Has The 2017 Porsche Panamera Become A Little TOO Tesla Model S-like For YOUR Liking? What Say You?
When it comes to automotive design, we take it pretty seriously. That's because one of the BIGGEST deciding factors in an automobile purchase is how the vehicle looks. Now, it doesn't exactly have to be the sexiest thing with four wheels because as we've seen in the past, ugly can sell.

A prime example is the first-gen Porsche Panamera. While it wasn't as bad as, say, the Pontiac Aztek of E60 BMW 5-Series, its hind quarters were a bit poor.

Now the second-gen car has been revealed as of yesterday and we're liking the all-new direction Porsche took it. It's much more sleek and its ass-end is tidied up in a BIG way. That said, we noticed right off the bat it looks awfully Tesla-like.

Not in the grotesque Model X way but in the swoopy Model S way. In other words, a good way.

What say YOU, Spies? Has the Panamera become a bit TOO much like the Model S for your liking?

Though the original wasn't pretty at least it was unique.

Tesla-like? Sorry, I just don't see it. They only thing I see is a way better looking Panamera. It's about time.

I agree with Dexter1. Tesla has nothing that looks like this, or as good!

Look at the side view of this and the Model S side by side, pay extra attention to the outline around the windows. I think the Model S still looks better.

Look at the side view of the Ford Fusion and the Tesla S if you want to see twins separated at birth. The Model S and the Panamera share a roofline that is similar to a number of sedans on the market.

Give me a break ! since when does Porsche have to model themselves off of anyone else ? Tesla was designed overnight. Go to Stuttgart and visit the Porsche museum and you see what design evolution is all about. Yes the Panamera was a new concept but it was still borne ( not aborted ) from a pedigree line of quality design. So, no the Tesla is not nicer.

The Panamera definitely looks very much like the Model S. There are only so many ways to do a 5-door hatchback.

The Model S did the look well, the Panamera does it well - are they too similar? YES!

The interior, while modern, looks kind of cheap in my opinion also.

I never liked the last-gen version, but the interior was beautiful and premium - from the photos, this one is a little generic-looking and downscale inside. All the black plastic channels Cadillac's CUE system and IP a bit too much.

Why does this article talk about comparing the new Panamera to the Model S and not even show the Model S?

GermanNut: Because then more people would be asking "similar in what way"? Yeah, car, 4 doors, 4 wheels... aaaaaaand?

Dunno, is that a bad thing? Now if Porsche gives the Panamera a more serious electric drivetrain and comes out with the all-electric Mission E sooner than later Tesla will have a lot to be proud of :)

The Model S doesn't look bad. But the design is sooo old. Debuted in 2009. In car design years, it is dead like an Aston Martin Vantage.

For sure the S has some benefits for those who appreciate them....but in terms of a driver's car for the same price the Panamera S just smokes the Tesla on any course that has curves. A Panamera Turbo S just did 7:38 on the Nurburgring - the fastest sedan on the planet and the same time as a Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera - simply amazing!

Compare that to ambling 9:00 for a Model S. That's enough time for the Panamera driver to eat breakfast and crap it out before the Model S finishes the lap.
