Dodge Journey to begin production in Italy by 2019
Dodge Journey is a practical and versatile, but it somehow remained off the radar for many customers looking for a decently equipped SUV.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is now striving to change that in a way that will put the Journey on the new platform with rear-wheel drive setup. The Dodge Journey for 2019 will be manufactured in Italy, and will use the same mechanical platform on which rests the Alfa Romeo Giulia.

Why 2019? The Giulia is in production and the Stelvio shouldn't far behind given that it is just a Giulia with raised suspension, AWD, and a station wagon body. Given that the Giulia was launched a year ago, the Stelvio and Journey should be launching now. FCA's cash flow must be really bad or the Giorgio platform really isn't ready for prime time. I wonder if they will build Giulia's and park them like they did with the Cherokee.

I still think the Journey is still a simple descent-looking SUV which has definitely stayed "under the radar" for years. OK, the engine-transmission setup hasn't been the best. But overall, the vehicle has respectable features for consumers that want a SUV that size & doesn't scream "look at me!" Current interior options are cool as well. Nothing too expensive yet too basic.

Hopefully, the change in platform doesn't kill the overall character but helps to increase popularity if the new exterior design is done right.
