Jaguar F-Pace vs Cadillac XT5 - Can The Geritol Set Challenge The Young Guns In The Market?

Is it too soon to name the 2017 Automobile All-Rookie Team? Of course not. You didn’t have to wait until season’s end to know that LeBron James would make the cut in 2004. Or that Kyrie Irving would get his votes in 2012 (jeez, no wonder the Cavs just won an NBA championship).

And you don’t have to wait until January for me to tell you that the Jaguar F-Pace and Cadillac XT5 are two of the best new players in the luxury game.

Article: "...two of the best new players in the luxury game..."

Really? Maybe if we look only at "new" arrivals, and "new" is defined in a very specific way to exclude some truly noteworthy vehicles.

My understanding is that the F-Pace is fine by Jag standards, but somewhat lacking if you compare it to offerings from Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, and arguably Audi. And the Cadillac? Well, they're still trying, but they have yet to be able to go toe-to-toe with the top luxury brands (AKA "The Germans") and come out even or on top. "We're cheaper" might be a bragging right.

You nailed it. When the XE was announced, several articles breathlessly proclaimed it much better than the Germans, but as time and the OMG enthusiasm went down the it's " fine by Jag standards, but somewhat lacking if you compare it to offerings from Mercedes, BMW..." reports have shown up.

I hope it does well.

As for the XT5, Cadillac wants you to think it's all new when underneath it's really just a heavy reworking of the SRX. The XT5 isn't terrible and you can get it with a steep discount, but the Lexus RX is really its bogey and not the Germans.

I hope it does well.

Stylistically, neither is future-classic material. They aren't ugly, but they are also not stylistic breakthroughs either.

Near do wells will love them.

You spout so much inaccurate, fallible information that I truly doubt you actually own or are involved as an entrepreneur in any real GM/Cadillac dealership.

The Cadillac XT5 is in fact under the ALL NEW C1XX platform, which is the crossover variant of the E2XX platform, replacing the Theta Premium and Lambda platforms.

@monopoly1 it's an evolution of the previous platform, but GM wants you to believe it's 100% new. The XT5 rides on an all new chassis in the sense that Mercedes took a discontinued E Class chassis, dumbed it down to make the Chrysler 300 which then with a front suspension modification underpinned the Qporte and Ghibli, then they changed the dimensions for the Giulia and called it the all new Giorgio platform.

MOST manufacturers do not do literally all new platforms very often because (1) that's costly and (2) runs a huge risk for all kinds of teething problems.

You, of course, are free to believe any hype you want.

More abject babbling! On balance, most automobile platforms are evolutionary or extensions of past versions, so it's silly of you to try & downplay the XT5 platform as if it's an aberration.

Indeed. The XT5 is more of a Lexus RX and Lincoln MKX competitor whereas the F Pace is probably more likely to be considered by those considering the Germans.

The F-Pace is a really sharp looking SUV/CUV. Its very distinctive so those who want a vehicle thats not German ( or a Land Rover ) this is a great choice. Its very athletic looking
