Trouble In Paradise: Top Gear Having A “Come To Jesus” Meeting With Its Primary Host

Trouble In Paradise: Top Gear Having A “Come To Jesus” Meeting With Its Primary Host

Reviewing cars isn’t such a bad gig if you can find the work. There’s just a couple catches:

1) It doesn’t pay; and,

2) If it does pay, you better be damn good at your job.

If you’ve tuned into the rebooted Top Gear featuring Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc, you would know by now that Evans falls into the second bucket. The problem is he’s not that good. Frankly, this isn’t much of a surprise given the pre-release reports that indicated Evans was having problems in front of the camera — remember, he made his nut as a radio broadcaster — and that he couldn’t even keep food/drink down when Sabine Schmitz took him for a lap .

Turns that ‘ol chap Chris isn’t much of a nice guy either with word that he treats the crew poorly. In other words, he’s a diva. I have another word for that.

According to the latest reports via The Sun, which is a tabloid paper in the U.K., a BBC executive is scheduling a sit down with Evans to sort things out. If he doesn’t like the new direction then he can “sod off,” as they say.

That would give LeBlanc more room to grow the program with another host — or two — since he is the most well-liked presenter thus far.

Stay tuned for the latest as this story develops this summer. If I was betting, I’d say Evans is getting the boot after this season is finito.

Chris Harris and Rory Reid--if added to Leblanc--would be a great Clarkson, Hammond, and May team. Not the same, but good in their own right. When Chris and Rory do segments, the show is great. Matt Leblanc's segments are great. THEN they cut to the "star in the off-road Mini" segment where Chris Evans drones on and on. The banter is boring. No one give as rat's ass what the celebrities used to drive. Getting rid of Chris Evans, keeping Harris, Reid, and Leblanc, ditching Sabine Schmitz and Eddie Jordan, and leveraging Harris and Reid is the genius move.

Sabine is borderline unintelligible in English and Eddie is a mean, annoying old man like Evans.

Flush the toilet.

Mostly agree. I have come to like Chris Harris. Not so much a fan of Rory though. Feel he panders to the younger generation a but too much (FYI... I am that younger generation). His review of the Tesla X was a bit too glowing. Either way, Evans needs to go quickly.

I'm Gen Y and I happen to like Rory a lot. I think I like Chris Harris because when I see him in action, his demeanor remind me a lot of myself. Narcissists gotta represent, YO!

Feel he is pandering to millennials. This millennial is not buying it, although I am willing to bet some do.

He's at least not Evans, Schnitz, or Jordan and that gives him the win in my book.

I fear I'm going to turn on the TV and Strahan's going to be hosting this thing.

I hate to say it, because this "new" Top Gear should be different and strive to find its own place, but . . .

If you want that Clarkson "bs" feel without the racist drops or staff slapping, bite the bullet and get Corolla and drop Evans.

I haven't been a fan of Corolla since his Bercham/Berkam days, but he would fit.

When they rebooted as same show, same set, same format, but with different presenters, I know they were in trouble. When I saw the first episode I could not believe that the BBC didn't preview it and say "Oh no, can't have that."

I doubt many people think getting a "bj" is perverted.

Done properly, it's an art form.

Perhaps one of the worst parts of the show (besides the awful celebrity interviews) is when they intro the Stig and get the audience to say "he's called the Stig"
