SPIED! FIRST Pics Of The All-New, US-Bound Seven-Seater Volkswagen Tiguan
If you walked into any Volkswagen dealer and spoke to its employees, the only thing on their mind wouldn't be the rather brutal dieselgate scandal that's plagued the brand for the past year or so. It would be that they do not have a seven-seat sport-utility vehicle that can compete at an aggressive price.

Instead it had the Tiguan and the more luxury inspired Touareg.

Though we've seen the large seven-seater conducting developmental testing, that may be a bit of a ways out. From what we've observed it's just started testing. Given VW's resources though it could theoretically be on a fast track to production.

What may bridge the gap though is something special. That's a three-seater Volkswagen Tiguan. All-new photos have captured the seven-seat VW at what appears to be a China-based factory where it is being produced for local consumption. According to reports this Tiguan XL will make its way to the Mexican plant so it can be built for North American buyers.

This would be a nice way to stop the bleeding provided it doesn't take too long to retool the Mexican plant. We're guessing the Tiguan XL will arrive as a 2018 model year product with the big daddy coming in after that.

That said, what do you make of the bigger Tiguan? Is this going to meet the market's need? What say you, Spies?

It will come down to options and pricing which MUST be exactly as the RAV4/CRV/Escape dollar-for-dollar and option-for-option. This VW cannot arrive with any excuses or justifications needed.

VW needs to get the introduction right, promote the living hell out of it, give it away with "free" leases, and then take care of customers like they just bought a Bentley.

I doubt VW thinks it needs an exorcism.

I'd give it a new name as well to convey a new beginning for VW. Call it something like VW Taos and do a new tag line: "Taos...a new VW...trustworthy." VW could effectively use dieselgate as a marketing tool by having a "Lee Iacocca" that is the spokesperson that--with a tone of anger--has arrived to restore the company.

But it's really too bad that dieselgate happened so late in the Tiguan's development that a radical styling departure could not have been penned. I really am surprised that VW has not done a 10/100 warranty yet.

I predict the new Tiguan will sell better than the current one, but like the current one it will not be a sales success, but an also-ran.

WTF? Looks like an X3 and an Outlander popped a baby. Looks like a bad Chinese clone car.

Actually, the larger 3 row is supposed to be rolling out of Chattanooga before the Mexican Tiguan arrives. The Tennessee model is based off the CrossBlue concept, and might even be available before year end, but most likely early next year. VW USA has already produced a "body in white", which is necessary to verify all the tooling. The Mexican Tiguan isn't supposed to be here before 3rd quarter 2017.

Third quarter of 2017--assuming that is true--would again show how VW has no priorities for the US market. Given how utterly horrible the current Tiguan is as a class trailing design, they should be fast tracking the living hell out of the new by sending product from China until Mexico is up and running.

They need to change the name.

They need a 10/100 warranty.

As for the CrossBlue, everything I have read says production MIGHT start at the end of December, but more likely in 2017 SOMETIME because they aren't finished with the prototypes yet.

I hope they borrow "Kodiak" from Skoda as a name rather than some VW conjured named like Larniquewa or something equally bad.

VW - time for a new front design. The current one is so boring and stale, it is one of the reasons people are not flocking to you.

VW and Audi have dated design languages that have ceased to please years ago.
