2016 Mazda RX8 – Return of Mazda's Grand Tourer

2016 Mazda RX8 – Return of Mazda's Grand Tourer
The RX-8 is Mazda’s latest rotary powered car but it was unfortunately discontinued back in 2012 because its engine no longer was compliant with the latest emission standards. Many people said that it would be the death of the Wankel engine but it seems that this might not be true. In fact, not that long ago Mazda released the RX Vision concept car which seems to be powered by a rotary engine. This car started many rumors about an upcoming 2016 Mazda RX8, the spiritual successor of the original and finally a true sports car from Mazda. Unfortunately so far they haven’t said anything about a production model but the 50th years anniversary is fast approaching and it would make sense for them to release such a car.

Why are this idiotic vapor stories being posted? There is no Torino. There is no Trans Am. There is no RX8.

Man that's harsh... I want them all back and more... I think GM should have 2 brands GM and Cadillac. Under GM you can have sub brands kind of like th i cars from BMW. That way they can leverage the entire history of all those famous brands. As for the RX-8 I really have no clue about Mazda's intentions, but an RX-7 similar to the early 2000/models and an RX-8 GT version based on the same structure/engine etc....could be a good way to help with the business case

Same guy who rehashed the Model 3 stuff and incorrect rumors and photo shopped picture of the Jeep Wagoneer. Who is this Roland and how does he get on the site?

And why is he not smart enough to say 2018 rather than 2016...which is almost over? I say 12 year old boy with stained Veyron posters.

Somebody is not paying attention here. Right now Mazda is not even confirming that there is an RX8 replacement. Until they actually solve the power, reliability, emissions, and fuel economy issues there is no RX8 replacement. There has been talk and speculation but no confirmation from Mazda. What I think is more likely is an AWD Mazda 6 with it's new Sky Active 2.5 turbo from the Mazda CX9. That's a plausible reality I could see because Mazda now already has the hardware for that type of vehicle. I could also see a plausible Mazda Speed 3 with AWD and a turbo 2.0. But again I am speculating.
