California Again Proves They Don't Care About Automotive Sector: Considers Punishing Success With EV Rule Changes

California’s effort to promote non-polluting automobiles is being thrown off kilter by a company that makes electric cars.

The rapid growth of Tesla Motors Inc. and the increasing range of other electric vehicles have the state contemplating new requirements that anger both Tesla and competitors like Honda Motor Co. They say California is changing the rules in the middle of the game, and punishing success.

Gotta love the Democrat-Fascist-Socialist supermajority!

So, you're "upset" because the California legislature wants to improve air quality by setting a mandate for automotive manufacturers to sell more zero emission vehicles

or

you're upset because California has cap and trade legislation that allows car manufacturers to sell tokens generated by their "clean" vehicle sales to other manufacturers or third parties???

Nope. I love clean air I'm not OK with the Socialist-Fascsist-Gestapo mindset.

In what way are these regulations Socialist or Fascist?

I'm upset because each time the Democrats in Sacramento get their nuts in a knot and want to do something about the environment, they come up with a new law that drives business from the state. The non-California standards are stringent enough.

California is destroying business in the state at a rapid rate due to overreaching environmental laws that are patently silly.

For example, we have to disclose that the plastic caps on spray cans would not be suitable to eat out of due to the type of plastic. #TipOfTheIceberg

Dimwits think solving anything is as simple as passing a law and letting magic unicorns fly out of their butts.

@MDarringer

The people of California do not believe that the standards are tough enough. No where is it stated in the California Constitutions, or the United States, is there a clause that guarantees that an entity's profit is to be held as a higher priority than the well-being of its constituents.

It is wholly up to the business owner to run a business that is able to adapt to the changing landscape of the rules and regulations enacted by the governing body.

Your argument, at its core, is trying to justify your ability to turn a profit is greater than a governing body trying to ensure the health of its constituents.

If you believe in "States rights", which from your numerous posts it is safe to assume you do, then California has every legal right to set the terms for an entity to do business in the state.

@MD

You have the ability to take your business to another state. Both Nevada and Arizona are only a few hours away, have little taxes and fewer regulations.

You're in California because the people are there, the money is there, the market is large and the weather is great.

@MorePower The basic answer is that yes I could set up shop elsewhere and just hire new people elsewhere, but I have commitment to my employees. And no, none of them are car sales people. I've been their boss for 9 years and when I became their boss I didn't deserve the title. The title was given to me as a couple of older friends retired and thought I could handle it, but I quickly set about earning the respect of everyone involved. I took the company digital, was cutthroat with suppliers to get costs under control, and aggressive in marketing product. They thought I was insane when I spent a considerable pile on unused TVR fames and bodies, but that has been very lucrative even if the product is legal only at a track. We have increased our business dramatically, but the core employees are 10-30 years older than me, rooted here in California, and I doubt they would move en masse elsewhere. Moreover, my wife's family has a very strong tie to California history and she would never leave that behind. In a more tax friendly state, my employees would make significantly more money.

#Moron My lucrative business interests are in this state and to a lesser extent Washington.

You may think you're clever.

You aren't.

But then again, you're the homeless I spit on as I go to Nordstrom South Coast in my father-in-law's Maserati to buy Versace, Hugo Boss, and Cole Haan.

@MD: Why a successful businessman like you have to drive your father in laws car to impress people ? Not much self confidence eh ?

I keep hoping Mattie The Moron will leave California - - - this action alone will raise the IQ of the entire state, plus free the California of the burden of caring for his kids as they enter juvy. Mattie is a dangerous demented sociopath who only excels at one thing - - - ripping off clients as a used car salesman. Don't believe anything else this simian with a keyboards tells you, his father-in-laws owns the business, Mattie just masturbates to the idea that he does. The closest he gets to Nordstrom is when the merchandising truck passes him on the used car lot.

When can we expect one of our ball-less moderators to ban this war mongering-isolationist-destructists-Gestapo-cash raping idiot?

As posted above, I have commitments to my family and my employees that trump packing up and moving.

My personal family ties to California are ZERO. I used to go to Seattle on Xmas, spring, and summer breaks when I was in high school and to be quite honest, I prefer Seattle.

My wife's family is "old" California and very entrenched. Were it not for the success of the business that my employees and I have made happen together and my wife's ties, I'd have gone to Seattle to sell premium cars and would have loved it.

I love what I do in California. Granted driving Van Nuys and Newport Beach all the time is tiring, but money is money.

With a better tax structure, I could employ more people--we need to--but to add more people would mean jeopardizing the excellent salaries we've been able to build.
