It’s been over a year since Hyundai was supposed to announce a pick-up based on the Santa-Cruz concept, but new reports suggest that nothing will be launched before 2020.

 Back in January 2015, Hyundai Motor America president and chief executive Dave Zuchowski said in an interview with Car Advice that the project had passed the approval stage, and was waiting to be announced:

It's a good looking vehicle, so as long as:
the price is right
it has decent power
a few power-train options
does not fall over itself on trails
can tow a few bikes or a sandrail

people will buy.

Everyone that remembers or owned the original Subaru Brat will give it a look.

i actually really like the way this pickup looks if it ever comes out looking like this and its relatively cheap, id def get one as a beater...

More than likely Hyundai has the engineering done given that this pickup is just a new hat over a current crossover.

With the new Fridgeline, Hyundai can see if it gets any sales traction. I predict it won't, but Hyundai is probably nervous.
