I've spent a week in a Ford Focus rental, and I came away feeling the car was worthy in its class.

It's a good product.

The Focus isn't bad in general, but it is starting to show its age and it's a fairly old platform underneath as the 3rd generation Focus was largely carry over from the 2nd generation with new styling. I'm really surprised that Focus prototypes are not running around.

The Civic just put everyone in the class on notice. I am also surprised at how much I like the new Cruze which is putting a lot of style into the segment.

One theory is that the next generation Focus will spawn an AWD Lincoln coupesedan to battle the Mercedes CLA and the MKZ will disappear. Given how great the ST and now the RS are--even with an old platform--it makes you wonder what an all-new platform would contribute.
