Tesla Says Model X Rollover Crash Occured Because Autopilot Was Never Engaged By Driver

Autopilot was not the cause of an accident involving a Southfield art gallery owner earlier this month in Pennsylvania, according to Tesla Motor Inc. CEO Elon Musk.

We're not ready for autonomous cars because people aren't smart enough to know how to use them

Just keep in mind that Tesla's badly-named "AutoPilot" system is NOT an autonomous system, even though the owner might mistakenly understand it to be. Tesla AutoPilot merely a driver-assist system, like cruise control, but with a much expanded scope.

It was rather bold of him to claim that the accident would not have happened with autopilot on. Seems to me the next accident will occur and they'll make him eat his words.

Would have made more sense just to state that autopilot wasn't on but this guy has a huge ego. I actually might, for entertainment, watch the Senate grill him and see if he tries to spin his shareholder BS on them.
