Infiniti Ready To Revolutionize The Segment With Variable Compression Powerplant
Along with the new unit, the brand will also launch a new mid-size global crossover, expected to replace the ongoing QX50. Details regarding the new power plant are scarce, but it is expected o bring a level of fuel economy usually reserved for diesel units, while power will be close to the abilities of a V6.

Reports claim the new power plant will feature variable compression ratio technology, making the engine the first in the world to reach production with this element. No automaker in the world has unveiled an engine capable of changing its compression ratio, so it will be exciting to see what Nissan has prepared for the new power plant.

I can't wait for it to throw a piston.

Ha ha. Always the optimist ...

@Dexter1 I'm a realist. The geometry of variable compression is rather tricky and let's be honest, Nissan is NOT famous for engine innovation. If this were Honda, Porsche, or Mercedes I'd be more inclined to believe it's workable. Nissan is known these days for rather frangible powertrains so the prognosis is not good.

@MDarringer: Nissan does pretty good in the engine department. If you look at the VQ engine which got many Wards award and the VR engine in the GTR, I would say they are doing a pretty good job.

@Monster the VQ is an OLD engine and Nissan has done literally nothing in terms of engines aside from that. Nissan has some significant powertrain durability issues, so I'm not going to be a believer in their ability to make a very complicated engine.

Hey Infiniti: How about revolutionizing your brand by making vehicles that at least look attractive?

The current styling is DeNysschen nonsense - another example of how poor he really is as a manager. I would expect that eventually they will see the light - and produce more classically elegant vehicles. Of course - Beauty is in the eye of the "beholder" - I cannot see what people would like the current Lexus front end design either - YOU certainly would not catch me alive driving one. And if you see me dead - driving either - I would suggest to get out of the way.

You are right Tom, beauty is in the eye of the beholder so cut your exaggerated and childish crap about Lexus. Instead count yourself amongst the fortunate and able to choose their drives and let people enjoy something different.
